Warm, woody smokiness under earthy, herbal tang…
Opens with a cacophony of green, citric, and what I read as aldehydic facets, similar to sniffing the bubbles coming up from an artificial lemon-lime seltzer. The former come mostly from the galbanum, given a particular tart zest and herbal tang by the blackcurrant and angelica, while what I read as aldehydes soon reveals itself to be mostly the smokiness from gaiac, soon accompanied by a deep, noble woody and earthiness aided by the vetiver and angelica, the latter also providing a bit of an herbal musk and pepperiness. I feel like I’m also getting something else that’s familiar, but I just can’t place it…

I must admit, while I find it to be very well blended and entirely original, this combination of materials and notes just isn’t quite for me. Like all of Mr. Micotti’s works, it’s a very artistic blend that requires an ardent spirit to attune to. The deep woody and smokiness makes this one a pretty serious class act. Sillage strong, longevity excellent.

Bravo, good sir!

Starts off oddly, but becomes more beautiful
To be honest, I was rather lukewarm about Sacre du Printemps when I first applied it. However, as time went on, I found the scent increasingly beautiful and pleasant. The longevity on my skin is quite strong at over 12 hours, and the sillage is also impressive.

With "Sacre du Printemps | YS Uzac," I would initially set aside the top, heart, and base notes, as most of the aromas are always detectable. What changes, however, is that the scent starts off a bit awkwardly before fading into a truly harmonious finish. At first, it smells very intense and green, reminiscent of blackcurrant buds, violet leaves, and fig leaves. Then, the blackcurrant becomes a bit more tart. Galbanum continues to provide a leafy yet also a woody-balsamic impression. Additionally, you can detect vetiver, sandalwood, patchouli, and guaiac wood. It also has an earthy, spicy, and herbal scent of ferns, camphor, and artemisia. In the background, there is a subtle smokiness.

I wouldn't have thought that I would end up liking Sacre du Printemps so much after the initial impression. I thank Nick for this exciting sample.

Gardening in a Bottle
Unfortunately, I always expect something positive or negative from a sample in advance. For example, because I didn't like the name, I ignored the sample of "Helmut Lang EdC" for a long time. It's actually silly, isn't it? If Sacre du Printemps hadn't spoken so beautifully to me about my sample dispenser, I probably would have never noticed it.

But despite the high price of Sacre du Printemps, all lovers of green scents should now pay attention, as you get a lot for your money here.

In the opening, you are greeted by a grass note like I have never smelled anywhere else. It's fresh, green, and really wonderful. Quickly, Sacre du Printemps becomes smokier. The image of the burning hedge mentioned by Ergoproxy fits really well, but for my nose, it's just one component. There is always plenty of fresh leaf green and grass, as well as a wonderful, tart, and unsweetened blackcurrant note. You really have the whole blackcurrant bush on your skin and not just a sweet, sugary berry.

As it develops, the fragrance even becomes surprisingly cozy and feels more like lying in a warm summer meadow. Warm-green and even slightly creamy-clean. This is how a fine fabric softener could smell.

The opening is less the typical perfume and more like gardening in a bottle. For everyone who wants to bring a piece of spring into winter or those who want to smell nature and adventure even in the city. Throughout, the Swiss fragrance never loses its green grassiness but becomes softer, creamier, and cleaner - somehow more perfumey.

Not only does the particularly authentic execution of Sacre du Printemps impress, but also its yield and good longevity. It behaves as one would expect from an Extrait.

And although I rarely pay attention to bottles and don't even like gold, I find the bottle here really well done. Real gold on the black-glossy background - this is how a Roja bottle could look elegant instead of (sorry) nouveau riche ;).

Spring Mystique - Spring Power!
Sacre Du Printemps - the ballet music by Stravinsky! I first encountered it decades ago as organ music: powerful, herbaceous, beautiful! Premiered in 1913, revolutionary at the time, provoking discontent. Depicted ritual: the sacrifice of a virgin to the spring god!

This claim of the name: Sacre Du Printemps - fragrance by Vincent Micotti!

Opening: Emerald green, moist-earthy, smoky. Freshly pressed juice from spring flower stems. Galbanum is likely a main actor, blackcurrant leaf serving in a more subordinate role. A walk in the morning mist in a dark forest, dew dripping from the trees, moss dampening the feet, somewhere in the distance freshly cut wood. Coolness, severity, silence, security. A promise of spring warmth, summer freshness.

Heart: The first rays of sun break through. Rising gentle warmth, the ground now smells drier, peatier, the green milder, a hint of anise (angelica root).

Base: The fading of the spring morning walk, the mist lifts, over the fields lies the delicate green blanket of already sprouted seeds and in the garden bloom scentless snowdrops and crocuses, tulips and daffodils are already budding, but far and wide there is still no floral scent: vetiver as a building block for sun-warmed spring earth. Drying wood in the distance.

Summary: The rising of the juices, the transformation of the mineral into the living through photosynthesis, the magical promises of spring are the theme of this fragrance. A scent like earthy smoke, emerald, and chlorophyll. Extremely natural in effect.

I never thought I would acquire a fragrance at this (!) price (small consolation: there are even more expensive ones!). But the small free sample that the nice people from Ys Uzac included with a fragrance shipment "flashed" me from the first whiff (verb borrowed from Dave Gahan). THIS is the spring and summer fragrance for festive occasions: my goddaughter's wedding (recently), a young colleague's wedding (a few days ago). Soon the wedding of a nephew: I look forward to the big celebration and the fragrance that will accompany me: optimistic, powerful, dignified, beautiful.....

Later I learned that Vincent Micotti worked directly with farmers for the sourcing of the fragrance plants and extracts - I believe it immediately.

Longevity for a fragrance in this price range is not very enduring, but for a fragrance that is thoroughly green and natural, it is good. Beautiful, rather understated, effortless sillage.

Bottle: mystical golden sheen on mysterious black glass!

Quietly, the branches crack,
Huuhuu calls the berry owl
Through the floodplain night.
In the black distance
Johannisfeuer glows:
Light falls into the darkness.

Silence:
The evening hour paints pictures..
Fire catches the bark of the trunk..
Embers seemingly gnaw at the branches,
that bow before the light.

A galbanum dream: Green, delicately smoky, and not sweet-fruity. Smells high-quality and natural, with a balsamic finish. It’s really lovely!

With my beloved, I tend to the currant bushes. A green freshness envelops us. The earthy-herbaceous darkness remains with us. Wonderful.

Lying on my back in the grass, arms behind my head. Above me, fluffy clouds in the blue sky. A stem of greenery in my mouth. A beautiful day.

Clumps of grass after March rain, pulled from the earth; fascinatingly naturalistic, unfortunately extremely fleeting on me; beautiful bottle.
