A lovely herbal british spring garden...
This is my first experience from the Union brand and a very pleasant one. As hippie-ish as the title may seem, it's actually a great scent - extremely pleasing, green and bright.
It's herbal, minty and lemony, like a sweet vetiver. The first fragrance I've tried including quince. The juniper note gives off a lovely gin-and-tonic vibe and I see this as a great alternative to Penhaligons Juniper Sling, even if it's only somewhat longer lasting.

Not sure if this is still available, it seems to be a Selfridges exclusive line. Looking forward to trying more titles from this overseen brand.

perfume or marinade?
Quince is a lovely-smelling fruit that we hardly ever see in the US, and I've long wanted to find a quince perfume. (Dr. Hauschka, a German company, has a gorgeous line of quince scented skincare products, but that's it.)

So I was very hopeful when I saw this scent. Unfortunately, whatever quince is in here is overpowered for most of a wearing. At different stages, I've gotten minty-citrus, sage-thyme (savory stuffing), and thyme-lime (marinade). Something quince-ish does come through after 3 hours or so. However, the fact that I have to spend 3 hours thinking of Jamaican rice and beans (cooked in coconut milk and thyme) and a Mexican-inspired tofu dish (marinated in lime juice) takes away the appeal for me.

Rendezvous on the Moss Bed
When the quince meets the mint on the moss bed, ideally - as here - a dreamily beautiful and absolutely convincing scent emerges.

I have eaten quince compote before, but I don't really know how quince smells. However, the fruitiness of "Quince, Mint & Moss" is refreshing, slightly bitter, not very sweet, and without much acidity. It comes closest to a mix of pear and apple (but old apple varieties, not Granny Smith apples). Above all, the quince is a beautiful contrast to the mint.

The mint itself is consistently noticeable, without me labeling "Quince, Mint & Moss" as a mint fragrance. The mint lacks a pronounced menthol note, yet it is very spicy and enhances the "bite" and the refined freshness of the composition.

Then there is the third component mentioned in the name of this fragrance, the moss from Ireland, alongside several other ingredients that Union itself names, such as juniper berries, lime leaves, thyme, sage, rowan, and watercress. All of them enhance the green aspect of the scent and complement the fruity and spicy freshness excellently.

An aromatic, fresh-spicy fragrance that cannot be compared with traditional scents of the same direction; it lacks the traditional aspect, being more unusual, especially due to the combination of quince and mint, with the latter not only in the top note.

Without knowledge of the ingredients, I would have bet that ginger is also included, but it is officially not. In any case, the sum of all ingredients gives me clear ginger associations.

Actually, "Quince, Mint & Moss" is suitable for all seasons except winter, but I have still very much enjoyed this olfactory, energizing vitamin shot in the last few days, especially as a positive contrast to the current Christmas season with all its prescribed coziness, the ubiquitous kitsch, and far too many sweets.

As a small, nice piece of information on the side, the packaging also lists exactly where the individual ingredients come from in the British Isles, e.g., the quince from Somerset and the sage from Gloucestershire.

Also, the longevity and sillage are very convincing. The only downside to this fragrance is indeed the high price.

Green in its many facets, sometimes smoky, then spicy, fruity, or earthy. It's beautifully done.

Fruity-green, but unfortunately not dominated by citrus. Juniper reminds me a bit of baby cream. I expected a bit more.
