Incredible Melt
I'll get to the title later.
Yesterday, I went out with two other perfume enthusiasts in Munich. We had a lot of fun and were able to exchange ideas well...
"You absolutely have to try the new one from Roja." Alright. Although I must say, without wanting to stir up any trouble, I was a bit disappointed with Roja. Firstly, none of the previous ones lasted on my skin, and secondly, they simply didn't develop the magic and pull that would have made me willing to invest in a bottle.
Well, that changed yesterday.
In the small Theatiner perfumery, it stood fresh and innocent before me, and boom, two sprays on my arm. I love amber. I love chocolate. I like dark, heavy, warm, soft scents. All of that is amber. It doesn't have a significant development to speak of. It is warm, rounded amber with the finest chocolate, or should I say: cocoa. I can smell that very clearly. And to balance it out, there's a hint of tangy oranges. I can still perceive something woody, the vanilla is noticeable but not strong.
I am thoroughly impressed. This is not a spectacular, loud scent. But very unique. Soft, skin-like, ambered, chocolaty. Delicious.
In the forum, someone was looking for comforting scents. This would be my comfort scent. Truly.
A perfect soul soother!

Let's keep the church in the village...
what happens when you test an amber that costs 275 British pounds for 50ml? Either you assume it must be something grandiose, or you are critical and have grand expectations. For me, it’s probably more about the high expectations, which makes it difficult for the fragrance to score points. For this price, I expect a clear unique selling proposition and a quality impression that seems unattainable in lower price ranges.

"Amber" starts off a bit uncomfortably for me. Herbal lavender and geranium open the fragrance together with plenty of bergamot and orange. Very herbal-floral-fresh, which directly meets the amber. I find the combination a bit disturbing; especially the herbal and floral notes take away some of the warmth that Althea mentioned, and come across as a bit rough. Fortunately, this impression gradually fades, and a decent dose of patchouli smooths everything out.

Patchouli? Yes! The amber seems almost to have disappeared. In the opening and in the transition to the heart note, I smelled a chocolaty amber that was great but lost some appeal due to those herbal notes.

Now amber becomes a patchouli scent for me. Amber, sandalwood, vanilla... that seems to be present only to soften the patchouli. Now the fragrance smells to me like a particularly cuddly "Psychedelique," with a touch of vanilla and amber.

A beautiful fragrance, a soft, rounded, well-composed scent. Not an amber for me; but should I praise or criticize that? I find it nice when an amber doesn’t develop like thousands of other amber fragrances. However, when an amber smells more like patchouli and hardly like amber, I question whether the goal has been achieved.

Roja has not created a century-defining fragrance for me here, nothing that breaks boundaries or leaves me speechless. It’s a lovely scent for people with well-filled wallets. However, there are so many cheaper, beautiful fragrances in the realm of amber and patchouli that, in my opinion, the Roja does not represent a must-have. Certainly the Bugatti of any collection, but olfactorily I see it as interchangeable. The extrait, however, shines with a decent sillage and a longevity that easily lasts intensely into the next day. That’s already a bit too much for me.

I’m a bit uncertain about the rating. There are fragrances that I like less but still received 80%. I found them particularly interesting; there were other motivations. I find the Roja nice, the patchouli annoys me, I wanted an amber scent, not a patchouli. "Amber" is, however, detached from price and other factors, rounded and beautiful, even if not outstanding and somewhat "missed." Just for the scent impression, it certainly deserves 80%, but there are simply points like the outrageously inflated price and considering that the disturbing notes in the opening and the almost pure patchouli base that bring a deduction for me.

A Dream of Amber
My dear Mr. Roja Dove, or something like that, I can still understand that you want to ride the Oud wave, but that this dreamy amber fragrance had to make way for it is simply unacceptable. I truly wish you would/could read this and would immediately bring it back into your collection. There, that needed to be said.
I, who actually don't like lavender at all, and chocolate scents either, find this combination of lavender and cocoa in the opening genius. Cocoa softens the lavender, and the lavender gives the cocoa something fresh and takes away its bitterness, because it's not sweet cocoa. And then this wonderful amber base mixes in. Simply a dream. Everything else is just embellishment, rounding it off. I am thrilled with this amber fragrance and can only repeat: "Please bring it back to us!" Especially for us girls. The amber-oud cannot compare at all.

So hard to resist you
Ah Roja, you and your high-priced fragrances. In selling, you are a king, but promoting the uniqueness of your scents doesn’t always succeed (excellently). Yes, it is easy to claim, although not easy to analyze, what should qualitatively set your fragrances apart from others. You come across as too coy and pretentious, which doesn’t exactly benefit your commercial intentions. Anyway, much of it seems…well…somewhat strange, if one sets aside your sometimes outrageously exaggerated self-presentation, which you try to completely *ignore*. Your affluent clientele may not care, and they should, in case of doubt. A rascal thinks ill of it.

You certainly cannot be denied sophistication, nor a shrewd eye for quality - even your biggest critics have noticed that. And yes, with Amber, you have truly achieved a great success, far removed from your mostly overpriced average goods. Here you present us with a wonderfully balanced gourmand, though the name alone may cause some confusion. But more on that elsewhere.

Amber initially opens with a cocoa note that is clearly in the foreground, which, to give you a heads-up, could hardly be more finely resolved. At least nothing of comparable quality has been presented to me so far. A characteristic aroma consisting of malty, slightly caramel-like nuances, refined with a not overly sweet vanilla: Wonderful!

The base is indeed lovely, but it initially gains a darker character through the lavender and, in the later development of the scent, thanks to the spicy resins, particularly the increasingly prominent patchouli, which certainly benefits the sillage and likely sways the last skeptics who had feared an overly heavy base from the start. No, nothing detonates in the candy store of your trust here!

Surrounded by a light sandalwood note, after 4-5 hours, the labdanum along with the benzoin unfolds, giving the gourmand direction an oriental twist. For some, this phase could certainly have been a tad more voluminous to do justice to the name that Roja has given his extrait.

In the drydown, the resins then take over. The benzoin sets the course and is pleasing: very creamy, warm, and sensitive - as snug as a second skin. A dream.

As part of the Heritage Collection (again) available, Amber is definitely worth a look and for lovers of cocoa-like fragrance compositions, an absolute recommendation to buy. I love it!!!

The sillage is particularly excellent in the (no longer available) extrait version. Just 1-2 sprays are enough; anything beyond that: no guarantee. Longevity? Also extraordinarily: It fades - depending on moisture and warmth - only after 10-14 hours on my skin.

A masterpiece by Mr. Roja Dove.

Olfactory Orgasm
You can say something like that in the headline, right? At least it is true!;)
The tragedy about the box....., the fragrance is no longer available.
Typical Roja, of course, exorbitantly priced and since the scent is no longer produced, it gets even worse.
But what a stroke of genius, warm, spicy, gourmand, always caressing..., I just fell in love, uh, I mean, I’m smitten! How cheeky, how beautiful you are?!!

I don’t even want to break down the individual components, this masterpiece is too brilliantly complex.
I feel a bit like "Gollum" right now..., my precious!!!
And even if one looked like that, this fragrance would make everything worthwhile.
Mr. Roja, thank you very much for this masterpiece and at the same time a curse..., but the best go first.

And I remain in a moment of silence in consideration of your beauty...

Initially a lavender-chocolate scent, amber joins in and the fragrance gradually becomes milder, softer, rounder.
Very fine scent with good sillage and longevity.
