Lackluster run-of-the-mill synthetic rose oud
Another “luxury” house putting out overpriced mostly crap perfumes. I’d even take Xerjoff and Boadicea the Overpriced over this because even they have a few decent perfumes worthy of a FB, if not overly priced FBs.

Of the brand’s lineup, of which I’ve sampled 21 (from their discovery set + now 2 samples of this one), this and two others stood out as the “best” to me. But let’s keep this in context of mediocrity.

Given the note listing, I was hoping for a decent oud/rose/frankincense to help me milk my bottle of FM’s The Night a few years longer. I did not find that here. It’s not a terrible scent but it’s far from great or worthy of wasting any money. Long story short, if a bottle were gifted to me I might wear it once a year or so, or maybe re-gift it to a friend who is not very much into perfumes and doesn’t know better.

I don’t want to waste too much more time here as I already have by sampling this house so I’ll cut to the chase. It’s mostly synthetic. They claim to use real oud so they probably use some. It’s not a lot. They’ve clearly bolstered it with some synthetic compounds to come across like there’s more. And the oud dies away anyway after about 2 hours leaving just an ambery rose mess.

These are the last words I’ll write about the house and the last thoughts I’ll give it.

Cheers!

Rose Not Living Up to the Name
Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus, also known as Octavian, was the founder of the Roman Empire. For a fragrance to be name after someone with such a massive legacy, you would imagine something majestic and rich smelling. What you get is another spicy rose fragrance on the market. It is a nice rose fragrance, with a hint of fruitiness, but fairly forgettable. The leathery and spicy notes surrounding the rose, add warmth and complexity. But in a market saturated with spicy rose scents, this doesn't stand out or move me in anyway. Its just a nice spice rose fragrance.

This fragrance has some aromatic qualities, the rose has some lift off the skin. Mainly, this is a skin scent. This fragrance lasted about 4 hours on my skin. There is one size available, the 100ml for $500. That is ridiculous. This is an average fragrance with a price point equivalent of paying rent.

Portrait of Octavian
I must proclaim, for uninspiredness, unfortunately, there is no prose,
Facts on the table, no looking through glasses in the color pink.

______________________

I'll make this short and sweet. I am disappointed! However, not in a thoroughly negative way, which is also reflected in the rating of the fragrance. I tested myself a few weeks ago by some fragrances of the house Electimuss. The impetus for this, gave me Octavian, which has lingered on my watch list for a long time and now I finally had the opportunity to get a good overview of brand. However, Octavian turned out when spraying on and wearing longer as a fragrance, which reminded me, only tentatively at first and finally unmistakably, of a fragrance in my collection - Frederic Malle's Portrait of a Lady. Octavian starts a bit more peppery and lacks the beautiful clove of POAL, but in the remaining 90% they are alike like fraternal twins. Especially when you hear the sillage in the air, it's hard to tell the two apart anymore. Despite this, the implementation, although somewhat uninspired, quite well done. Beautiful rose, with some sour fruitiness, cool swaths of incense and some creamy sandalwood. If you look closely, you won't find any oud in my listing, and that brings us to the big sticking point. Here Electimuss could have created a unique selling point for their Octavian, but one searches in vain for the precious ingredient. Only a barely perceptible hint of some dark wood flashes through in the drydown every now and then, but of a strong note of the fragrance, whether chord or in natural form, one can not speak here unfortunately. Therefore, I can unfortunately only give an average rating for this fragrance, which I would have liked only too much.

Prince of persia falls in a store full of roses
For me, this was one of the most beautiful rose-oud fragrances I have ever smelled. The combination of saffron, pink pepper and incense makes it very oriental.
The fragrance has a strong sillage, a good durability of up to 10 hours and price performance is ok.
For all those who like rose-oud fragrances and want it a little bit special, you could get this one.

No 0815 Rose-Oud
I've been looking for a rose oud fragrance that would blow me away again for a long time. Octavian has done it.

It's quite spicy in the opening, which personally bothers me a little.
After the first 30-60 minutes you get a very high-quality rose that comes across as a bit soapy.

The saffron and pepper have blended uniquely and have a super warming effect on the rose.
The interplay between the two types of rose and the two spices is what makes this fragrance so special for me.

The whole thing is underlined by high-quality oud which gives the fragrance a lot of power. It has a certain animalic quality and is resinously sweet.

After about 4 hours, it feels as if the sticky resinous oud melts and covers the rose a bit.
This is the point where I really fell in love. I have rarely smelled anything so well balanced.

With this fragrance, the wheel has definitely not been reinvented but perfected and made interesting again.
