Sweet? Not at all! Audacious, dark, gnarly, and bitter...
.....and the longevity is also quite impressive. At least for me. An "EIGHT" would definitely be justified. The sillage is also quite convincing.
The fragrance may not fill a hall, but in an average living room, everyone present will likely experience it. However, Oud Ultime is probably not to everyone's taste.
It starts with a cornucopia of slightly "gloomy" woody aromas, reminiscent of what a forest spirit might exude.
A combination of birch tar and patchouli, interspersed with cedar green and cypress needles. It conjures a gnarly-resinous-herbaceous-earthy dream that hardly changes. Only towards the end does it manage to develop a slight coniferous sweetness, like what pines might emit after a rain shower when the sun comes out again. Meaty, slightly resinous, a bit green and "woodsy".
In hardly any of the fragrance components do I truly recall the "special" oud wood. However, this hardly detracts from the fragrance itself. Perhaps a bit too much expectation for "oud lovers" was placed in the name (Wood Ultime would fit better), but wood-resin-vetiver noses would certainly get their money's worth.
