Tobacco - vanilla - amber generic fragrance
Opened with a soft, mild tobacco with a slightly woody accent followed shortly there after by a touch of incense. It then evolved into an ambery vanilla scent, lightly sweet and slightly powdery, slightly creamy. The tobacco by then had more or less disappeared. Performance was good with excellent longevity. Sillage was quite good for the first hour, then retreated to a more compact scent bubble. Unisex fragrance. Would seem to be pretty versatile, good day or night, any season but perhaps not on the hottest days.

Overall, I'd say it's a nice, generic scent. Mild tobacco then mainly amber & vanilla. At just under $200 for 100ml, seems overpriced for what it is. Nothing really special. I'll pass.

Between Mist and Incense - Empiryan and the Magic of Winter in Como
It was December 2024 in Como, one of my favorite places, the Lake Como lay still like a mirror, framed by mountains whose peaks glistened under a thin layer of snow. The air was cool, clear, and carried that unmistakable scent of winter water and wood fires in the chimneys of the villas by the shore.

I strolled through the narrow streets of Como, in search of a warm coffee or perhaps just a moment that would be memorable. Then my gaze fell upon a small but elegantly glowing shop: Campomarzio70, a very popular perfumery in Italy. Even the name promised me that no ordinary fragrances awaited here.

Inside, it was warm, the light dimmed, the shelves like little treasure chests full of bottles. And then there it was, Empiryan by Xerjoff. The consultant smiled knowingly as I sprayed the fragrance onto a test strip.

The first breath: like an old library in a cathedral, warm tobacco leaf, incense, wood, an almost sacred depth. Yet beneath it pulsed something soft vanilla, sweet but not playful, like a secret warmth amidst the winter. Outside, I saw the breath of passersby in the cold air, inside, Empiryan enveloped me like a precious cloak.

I knew immediately: This was not a fragrance you simply wear. This was a signature at least for this place, this winter, this part of me. In the days that followed, I wore it on every walk by the lake, in the mist, in the soft light of the cafés, during conversations that turned into long silences while simply gazing at the lights on the water.

The next days in Como became a kind of ritual. In the mornings, I sprayed Empiryan on, stepped out into the clear air, and let it mingle with the city: with the scent of fresh pastries in the cafés, with the smoke from the chimneys, with the damp stone of the old walls. In the evening, when the lights of the city reflected in the water and the lake appeared like a black mirror, it was still there, softer, rounder, but unmistakable.

Since then, Empiryan has been my Como fragrance. Every time I spray it, I am back there: the December sky, the scent of smoke and cold stone, the glimmer of the lake, and I, with a bottle in my pocket that holds an entire landscape.
My conclusion:
Empiryan is for me an atmospheric companion that holds memories. Its tobacco and incense opening feels like the first breath of cold winter air, intense and clear, yet never cutting. The warm wood notes and the deep, noble vanilla at its heart provide comfort, as if wrapping oneself in a heavy cashmere scarf.

What fascinates me particularly is the balance between grandeur and intimacy: Empiryan feels majestic without being distant, and tells a story that works both in festive moments and in quiet hours. The longevity is outstanding a single spray can accompany you throughout the day, sometimes even longer.

For me, it is not just a fragrance I wear, but a piece of Como in winter, preserved in a bottle my olfactory anchor to a time and a place that mean a lot to me.

Great Tobacco
I smelled this fragrance here and was very curious about how it would turn out. To be honest - the reviews here and online were not the usual praises one typically finds for Xj.

Let's start with the scent:
Right from the beginning, I get a very strong tobacco note. This is paired with something sweet and slightly creamy.

As described, the fragrance lasts quite a long time, so it doesn't change much.
After about 1.5 to 2 hours, however, a bourbon-like vanilla starts to emerge, combined with the slight smokiness of the incense and a still subtle tobacco leaf accord.

Furthermore, I can detect a slightly woody note after about 2.5 hours, which gradually replaces the incense and slowly but surely fades out in conjunction with the tobacco and the gourmand vanilla until the end of the fragrance development.

The scent has hardly any transformation, but it is by no means linear or boring!
The longevity is very good, but quite close to the skin, as the fragrance oil content is likely quite high.
When I spray the perfume on my wrist, a proper oil film is visible.
That means: Be careful when spraying on clothing!!

I don't need to say anything about the bottle. It is, like the packaging, simply wonderful in a Xerjoff way!

For me personally, the fragrance smells very similar to pipe tobacco.
Not a cigar or cigarette, but a pleasantly perfumed pipe tobacco.

The Gentleman's Room
It is evening and Fred makes himself comfortable in the gentleman's room. His gray hair glimmers in the candlelight. As he slowly sinks into the large leather armchair, he enjoys the atmosphere of his private library. It is very opulent, filled with many old books and antique items. The shelves are stocked to the ceiling with masterpieces from a bygone era. Everything in the room is elegant and well-kept, yet up high on the last shelf, a thin layer of dust has settled on the spines of the books. However, it is so high that it escapes the gentleman's notice. Fred calls for his housekeeper, who hands him a pipe and his monocle before discreetly leaving the room. Fred opens one of the books. It is a heavy, thick volume bound in fine leather. It feels solid yet soft, and the page edges are adorned with gold. Inside, there are hand-painted maps. Memories rush into his mind of how he explored the world as a young man. Fred has led a tumultuous life and achieved much, so today he owns a large estate. Sometimes he wishes he had set his priorities differently. For sometimes he feels very lonely.

Indulging in the Empyrean
As I was browsing through the extensive catalog of Xerjoff to see the offerings of the house, I inevitably came across the bestsellers; Naxos, Erba Pura, Alexandria, Accento, etc.

However, I ventured deeper and discovered the "K-Collection". I was immediately captivated by the bottles, which I found hypnotically attractive. The antique design with its mysterious colors really got to me.

Among the fragrance notes of the 4 Kemi-Blue scents Ether, Holysm, Astaral, and Empiryan, I could hardly imagine anything. So, I ordered samples from Xerjoff, but only included Astaral and Empiryan, as these appealed to me the most.

I found Astaral to be okay at first, a bit too feminine for my personal taste.
Empiryan, on the other hand, was (almost) a solid hit from the start. Here’s the review!

Fragrance Development
Empiryan starts.... intense. Honestly intense. This did put me off a bit. You get hit with a full blast of tobacco right away. I also detect incense, and there are (still) no sweet notes to be found. Immediately, I picture an old church or a huge museum - I find it to be a very epic, dominant scent.
A lot happens as it develops. The initially slightly musty tobacco note fades, and for me, a well-perceptible vanilla with woody notes comes into play. I get slight associations with beeswax and old wood. The scent then remains quite consistent, transforming piece by piece and gradually fading away.

This may not sound particularly special on paper; however, I now love Empiryan so much that I proudly wear it as my signature scent. The fragrance conveys dominance and calm in a harmony I have never smelled before. An epic, dark scent that still radiates security. In my surroundings, it is (surprisingly) very well received, and many people find it intriguing, as such a composition is very rarely encountered. I truly love Empiryan and can't imagine my collection without it.

Longevity/Sillage
Empiryan performs at an incredible level. It lasts over 20 hours on my skin (!), projecting strongly for many hours. Even after 8-10 hours, I am still perceived very strongly, but I usually receive positive feedback about the scent. Quote from my university: "Who smells so crazy here??"

Packaging
Xerjoff-typical top-notch. The packaging is fun and also serves as a display piece, and the bottle is in a whole different league even for Xerjoff. It looks fantastic in the collection.

Conclusion
Empiryan is and will certainly remain my number 1 for some time: The incredible fragrance development, reliable performance, beautiful packaging, and uniqueness make Empiryan a true masterpiece for me. Definitely test it if you get the chance :)

Wearable tobacco leaf shifting into vanillic woody amber + mild smoke. No coup de theatre to justify the price.

Sweeter, less spicy take on Russian Tea. Medicinal amber with honeyed, minty black tea. Smoky and bitter facets on a quality vanilla base.

Quite a simple formula but very well executed. A hint of tobacco, mainly noticeable in the top. After that amber vanilla. Has an x-factor.

The main star of the show is a very smoky resinous amber. Tobacco comes through a bit in the drydown

Medicinal-sweet ambers that warp to dry woody-tobacco & then goes smoky. A lot of layers, might lack use cases. Masculine, fall-winter.

I love this one so much, the opening is a beautiful incense and woods which dries down into a beautiful vanilla.

Opens dry/woody with incense, smoky caramel and ammonia. Dries down "generic" oriental, vanillic amber on skin; BEAUTIFUL, masterful sillage

Earthy, lifeless, mouldy, tired. I should love everything about this, instead i'm repulsed. It just stinks, a dissonant unattractive mess.

Dark wood creaks,
Dust dances in the pale light,
Tobacco leaves in the incense mist,
Labdanum's black heart.
Sweetly blurred.

Exactly my thing. Beautiful tobacco with vanilla, incense, and woods. Dark, but also a bit sweet and simply lovely.
