Musky, animalic, leather

Just simply my favorite amber. Sueded. Animalic (barnyard). Powdery. Resinous. Dry.

Crystal d'Ambre is not your typical sweet-vanilla amber. I have smelled a million of those, and nothing like Crystal. There is a bit of sweetness here (1%), but she is primarily a labdanum-heavy, borderline fecal, sueded-leather amber. Soft-moderate projection, and very much a sensual skin scent. Dark, somewhat murky, muddy even?

But such a pleasure to wear in cold weather, radiating from under a sweater. Drawing people in. Getting harder to find--don't see this on KM website so it may be discontinued.

This fragrance opens with a sheer amber accord. Vanilla and sandalwood boost the trio of notes making up the amber impression. The suede accord is relegated to the background, where it acts as the the base of the scent. The dry down is dominated by a suede and vanilla-infused musk.

Dancing Snowflakes

Today it is snowing incessantly - Mother Holle is thoroughly shaking out her pillows.

And which scent fits the dancing snowflakes?
Crystal d`Ambre.

The fragrance is so pure and clear - and so perfectly structured like a snow crystal.
It is as soft as the snowflakes that gently land on my skin - and then delicately melt away.
A cloudy scent, with the aroma of winter - embedded in a hint of noble suede.
The amber is attractively sweet and subtle - and shines through bright musk like a fresh blanket of snow.
Creamy, the winter scent is enriched with sandalwood and warm vanilla.

Its cool - warm character makes me want to play Vivaldi's Four Seasons - preferably the "Winter".

The music and the fragrance emphasize the beauty of this season, which I so often fail to appreciate.
Now I have a different opinion.

Cautiously, we enter paradise. Darkly adorned with dark flowers of black mourning and accompanied by the scent of animalistic corners, the portal to the longhouse opens.

Brown dark ground, amber ground, immerses us in mysterious darkness in the dim light. Individual sunbeams from the upper gallery sparkle on the bright sandalwood benches, glimmer on the suede upholstery, and cast light shards on the organ. An Ark of Noah.

Before us rises a gigantic organ. Eight meters high. Or higher. In the middle of the church. In the middle of the crossing. And it almost overwhelms us with its mass. Mass like musk. A sculpture of dark woods, massive and heavy like a monster of a bottle. An organ like a dark fragrance. A fragrance like Crystal d'Ambre.

Deepest bass from dark pipes, almost from hellish depths, spreads wide in these holy halls and feels sacred and frightening without incense. Here, nothing is bright and clear, there is no gray and no white, there is only a dark tone. A tone that accompanies us. Wanting to forget.

More than JUST Amber

Yesterday I wore this fragrance all day... and I enjoyed it. I didn't spend much time trying to dissect the notes; at some point, I just thought "man, you smell damn elegant today." Amber is indeed dominant here, but the theme is well executed. The dark, heavy, gloomy aspects have been taken away from the amber. It feels light, floating, crystal clear, and yet absolutely not artificial. There are also very earthy notes that are not listed here. Perhaps a bit of patchouli and maybe even a touch of dry myrrh? I think these earthy tones contribute to that wild leather impression. Because it fits, alongside the crystal clear amber stands a rather natural, rough, and earthy suede as a contrast. Fantastically done, this works with contrasts. By the way, absolutely unisex.

A new fragrance for my wish list.
