No angel, and yet...

So, first of all, this will be my very first comment, after I've been enthusiastic but silent on this site for years.

It is at the same time the 99th ! to this smell, whereby one may rightly ask oneself whether this is really necessary now - necessary is probably not. And then one of those "When I was a little kid..." oje oje.

But you have to start somewhere, and you can't do much wrong with this one. Not much has to be said about the fragrance itself, everyone knows it anyway, many love it, even more hate it, I have something in between.

Aaalso then.

When I was a little child...hmm no, actually more of a teenager, we met for the first time. It was in the late 90s and thus no longer the time when such powerful hums were popular, but when all CK One or something similar wore unisex. But she didn't care, my dear aunt Evi *. (name changed*)

She belonged (I use the past tense, she's certainly still alive, but we don't have contact anymore) to the generation in which a woman could still allow herself to stay at home and still have enough for a cottage in the countryside, a Passat and the annual holiday in Turkey, and she greeted you at every meeting with the obligatory question "Have you lost weight?

And she had them all, from the Brigitte diet to Weight Watchers to Fit For Fun and Low Carb. (Now she's probably doing paleo, but that didn't happen back then. )

Anyway, diets were her great passion until she found her true fulfilment in hobby painting and finally in the local community, and fashion, cosmetics and cake baking and whatever else you can find in relevant women's magazines, of course
As a person I could never really get along with her, she was too loud, too intrusive, sometimes even really embarrassing, especially when she had a glass too much, and her dress style underlined her personality perfectly. Deeply tanned at any time of the year, she liked to wear bright colours and was always hung with gold jewellery at family celebrations - like a member of an ethnic minority, whose current political-correct name I have just lost, something like this is constantly changing.

Her whole appearance was screaming HELLO HERE AM ICH! Whether I'm now falling or not Her clothes were never cheap, no, all expensive designer pieces, but always screaming colorful and - at least for my taste - terribly ugly. (If she sorted out again and generously gave them away to us, they immediately ended up in the old clothes collection with a few exceptions. )

But it was just her very own style and fit to her like a fist on the eye - and the same was true for "Angel."

At first I thought, wow, what a hammer fragrance - so wonderfully warm, delicious, sweet, chocolaty, vanilla, hmmm... And HEFTIG!
Impossible not to perceive it when someone is wearing it within a 100 meter radius, not even with a cold and a blocked nose. If Angel would be a diet then at most FDD, and that was always the dearest to me anyway ;)

I think that day, when my aunt wore this scent, I let myself be embraced by her voluntarily and gladly for the first time. What a great scent it was, I asked shyly. That's "Angel," she replied with a bright smile.

Well.
I doubt that angels smell like that, not even fallen ones, but I think it's great about a certain kind of woman. Not a shy wallflower, but one that likes to attract attention and that in case of doubt will pass by elsewhere, whether positive or negative. I have (unfortunately?) never become such a woman, the equal times in front and I was fast clear, this is a smell which does not fit me and will never fit.

And yet...

A few years later, as a student, my aunt gave me another discarded piece of clothing and this time I wore it. It was certainly sinfully expensive - knee-length lamb leather coat with (real) fur trimming on the collar, and she had generously sprayed it with "Angel" beforehand.

Today I wouldn't wear lamb leather anymore, let alone real fur, but back then, when I had to go out into the cold early in the morning, tired to death, and pulled this fur collar over my half face (still smelling like "Angel" months later), for me it was the epitome of cuddly warm comfort, almost as if you were still lying in bed, and yes - also of luxury, even if I wore sneakers and there was spaghetti with ketchup on 6 out of 7 days a week. Indescribable! You won't believe how much I sometimes miss this coat when it's really cold and uncomfortable outside. Even if - as I said - for purely ethical reasons I would no longer wear it today.

Long story short, I like Angel, I really do. ( And by that I mean the original, I don't know all the Flanker and Dupes. )
Not on me, but on the women he suits. No gentle, angel-like creatures, especially no bitchy, pale lean models, but real full-wives, drama queens with the courage to controversy and yes, even to ugliness. Under their loud, gaudy façade hides a large, warm heart, as is certainly the case with my aunt Evi. Maybe I should call her again and ask her if she's really doing Paleo now...?

By the way, in comparison to all the irrelevant sugar waters that are so popular at the moment, I don't even find the scent SO very sweet. In the right dosage - which is admittedly difficult, a single sprayer is almost too much - it doesn't kill you, but cuddles up softly, like the fur collar of my former lamb leather coat. Tasteless, I know, actually not in good conscience justifiable.

And yet...in my opinion he has his right to exist and is rightly a classic.

Phew, who has actually read it through to the end, thanks and sorry for the long story! As I said, this is my first Kommi, and at some point I might write one about a perfume that I really, really great, without any ifs and buts. With fragrance description and so.

I haven't found "my" fragrance yet - but after years of stalking this site I now believe that the "one" doesn't exist anyway, and I also end sometime with a huge collection...

But luckily there's the souk - probably the greatest thing since the invention of the waterproof mascara - and I'd like to take this opportunity to thank all the lovely people through whom I've been able to get to know so many great scents in this way!

Thank you!!!
