Amazing olfactory journey!
Nightfall in the City of Kings by Mystikum, created by the talented Mark Buxton, is a fragrance that feels like a journey through an ancient city as the sun dips below the horizon, unveiling a world of mystery and sensuality. A blend of spices, florals, and rich woods, this perfume exudes a regal, otherworldly vibe—fit for the most captivating tales of long-lost kingdoms.

It begins with a striking yet intriguing combination of carrot seeds, cardamom, peach, and orange blossom. The carrot seeds give it a slightly earthy, rooty touch, while cardamom adds a spicy, aromatic complexity. The peach brings a touch of sweetness, lightening the fragrance just enough, and the orange blossom creates an ethereal, almost floral freshness that flirts with the more complex notes to come.

In the heart, cinnamon, cumin, freesia, Turkish rose, ylang-ylang, and clove create a spicy, floral, and slightly exotic aura. The cinnamon and clove add warmth and richness, while the Turkish rose and ylang-ylang lend an opulent, sensual aspect. The cumin is particularly intriguing—adding depth and an almost animalistic quality to the heart of the fragrance.

The base is where the magic happens: Ambrarome, amber, cedar, castoreum, tonka bean, patchouli, musk, sandalwood, and vanilla create a deep, rich, and intoxicating foundation. The Ambrarome is particularly captivating, offering a warm, resinous quality that blends beautifully with the earthy castoreum and woody cedar. The vanilla adds a comforting sweetness, balancing the more animalic elements and giving the fragrance a touch of warmth and sweetness that lingers on the skin.

What I love about Nightfall in the City of Kings is how it beautifully balances sweetness, spice, and depth. It has that mysterious, regal aura that makes it feel like you're stepping into a world of opulence and intrigue.

Another memorable scent
This is a regal and mysterious fragrance that combines cinnamon, Turkish rose, and deep amber to create a scent that feels both historic and contemporary at the same time. With such an evocative name, Nightfall in the City of Kings is warm, a little bit spicy, and full of depth. I think it's perfect for anyone wanting to make an impactful entrance.

Wind of the 20s in the guise of modernity
A beautiful purple bottle in the style of the golden 20s for a fragrance that captures the magic of twilight.

With Nightfall in the City of Kings, Mark Buxton aims to capture that "enchanted moment when dusk fades into evening". And that is exactly how the opening of this fragrance feels: A spicy cardamom mist rises, warm yet with a cool tang, as if day and night were joining hands. In the first scene, cardamom clearly dominates, cardamom-heavy in the best sense, accompanied by golden peach and a hint of orange blossom, which provide a subtle, fresh shimmer like the last rays of sunshine. This opening is intense, but at the same time soft and finely nuanced, balsamic, woody, resinous, delicately spicy, yet soft and not at all intrusive. One has the feeling of standing above an oriental bazaar, where the scent of cardamom chai rises from tea rooms and mingles with the cool evening air.

As the fragrance wears on, the complex composition unfolds and opens a new chapter. This clearly shows that this fragrance lives and develops on the skin (it remained comparatively linear on the test strip). A mild rose gradually blossoms out of the spicy twilight, delicate and subdued, as if its scent were lingering in the distance over an old palace garden. It is joined by subtle spices, I think I detect fine cinnamon and clove, which together with freesia and a hint of ylang ylang form a mysterious heart. In my imagination, I am suddenly standing in a chapel in a mixed forest, smelling resin and mint. These unusual images flash through my mind because Nightfall in the City of Kings really does have a mystical aura, almost reminiscent of church visits. There seems to be a hint of incense in the air (although no incense note is declared), presumably due to the combination of spicy and woody notes. At the same time, there is still something fresh, perhaps the green facet of cardamom or a minty hint that gives the fragrance an airy, fresh aspect, as if a cool evening breeze were blowing through the old walls.

In the base, Nightfall sinks gently into the night. Amber and patchouli lend a warm depth reminiscent of glowing amber lights in the dark. Sandalwood and dry cedarwood underline this warmth and add a velvety, woody base. Nothing disturbs the harmony, all the notes weave softly into an atmospheric whole, there are no loud corners or edges. Even a light peach note emerges from time to time later on, now very gently, like the echo of a dream. This sweet fruitiness remains subtle and "consecrated", almost like the famous consecrated peach, a poetic image that perfectly describes this extraordinary finish. Overall, the fragrance really does combine past and present, history and modernity in a single composition. One imagines oneself in an old royal palace as well as in a modern city at night.

The sillage of Nightfall in the City of Kings is pleasantly moderate. The fragrance wears like a fragrant aura that does not overwhelm you, but is clearly perceptible. It tends to stay close to the wearer, but is sure to attract curious noses in its vicinity, like a mysterious shadow that discreetly fills a room. The longevity is above average. On my skin, it easily lasts 8 to 10 hours, enough to accompany me from sunset until deep into the night. It changes noticeably over time, which keeps the fragrance experience exciting.

Attention: This is not a typical blind buy fragrance. It should definitely be tested on the skin before making a decision.

Conclusion: Nightfall in the City of Kings is an olfactory fairy tale at the blue hour - mysterious, spicy and yet gentle, with depth and character. Good in the blue hour but never blue.
Each phase of the fragrance tells a little story on my skin. If you embark on this journey, you will be rewarded with a fascinating fragrance experience that alternates somewhere between a midnight bazaar, a forest shrine and a royal boudoir. For me personally, this fragrance is particularly successful. A clear recommendation for anyone looking for poetry and a mystical mood in perfumes, but please only after a detailed skin test, because a treasure like this needs to be discovered, not bought in a hurry.
