Really good ......... but not Afternoon Swim and that's really ok

So........... this is my first ever review on Parfumo. I've read a lot of opinions about things I own and things I've smelt and wanted to add a few points for people that may not be familiar with many of the fragrances that they read about in this forum.

I own both Afternoon Swim and IV Quatre and they can definitely be used in all of the same situations but they aren't a 1 to 1 match. IV Quatre has a very strong and sweet orange opening which is pretty artificial but isn't bad in any way. I think we have to be realistic with what we can expect from something that is 10-15% of the price of the fragrance it's emulating. Although it's a synthetic smell, it has a juicy undertone and is very pleasant and not cloying. The scent is linear so what you smell from the opening doesn't really change much through both the middle and well after the drydown but the scent is sweet in the air and has a nice sillage until it become a skin scent - which for me is 6-7+ hours. It performs really well for a fresh fragrance and is definitely blind buy worthy. It doesn't have some of the depth of Afternoon Swim (which may sound odd to say a freshy has "depth" but it does a little) as I don't really get any of the ginger or slight marine notes but I'd recommend buying IV Quatre. I just wanted to add my opinion as I don't think it's fair to over or underplay this fragrance.

So yes, it's good, it's actually really good.............. but on your skin you're not going to confuse it for Afternoon Swim of you've smelt them both side by side. Don't let that limit you though. Just buy it. It's under £30 in the UK. Afternoon Swim is £250+.................................... you do the math!!!

One painfully obvious dissapointing aspect from an otherwise good fragrance.

Quatre is the name, but also the hour where it stops sitting on your skin. Even worse, it usually doesnt even make that most of the time. Luckily its not all bad, but to say i am not dissapointed at least a little, would also not be true.

The bottle and box are steller. The atomizer is also great. This is also one of those bottles where the look of it is exactly what you get from the scent as well. Honestly, there are two words needed to describe this scent: orange and sweet, thats it. Escpecially in the opening it is almost unbearably sweet, with a pleasent ginger note being slightly inserted in the drydown period. Not a bad DNA at all. I cannot compare it to the thing it is copying, Which is LV''s Afternoon Swim unfortunately, since i am not rich.

Where it really drops the ball is the longevity. On my skin it is absolutely terrible, like not even 3 hours usually, which is a shame, cause it does make a great everyday high heat summer scent. Accords like orange are great for everyday use in these weathers because of how universally liked the smell of oranges are, but with longevity like this, it is really only meant as a part-day scent.

Not a total dissapointment, but it is in the one aspect that would make this a much better scent if better, which is the longevity. From a score of 0-100, i would give it a 73.

Orange necco wafer

I was already picking up another Paris Corner scent and I hadn't been able to find a decant sample of this, so I made the unusual step of blind buying to pick up Quatre. As a long-time lover of Atelier Cologne's Orange Sanguine, I was hoping that this would be an even orangier perfume with plenty of juice. Unfortunately, this one's scent came across as an orange Necco wafer or orange Smarties candy scent. Something really synthetic or medicinal is binding the orange together. My most regretted blind buy, though a relatively inexpensive mistake to make in this hobby.

Take two plus Fanta

The IV Quatre starts off very sweet and fruity. I clearly perceive orange, lemon and, later on, spicier ginger notes. The whole thing is rather synthetic, as if you were smearing yourself with two drops dissolved in Fanta. There is also a note in the fragrance, I suspect ambroxan or musk, which gives the whole thing a long-lasting base. Quatre also lasts 4-5 hours on the skin and easily 8-10 hours on clothing.

Anyone expecting a natural, fresh and citrusy experience will be disappointed. The IV Quatre is just like Nimm Zwei, rather artificial but just as delicious. It radiates quite well and is rather linear in its fragrance progression. I don't think it has much to do with Afternoon Swim. But I haven't smelled the original yet either. It just seems too artificial for my liking. Fanta is not Orangina either. Nevertheless, both flavors have their right to exist. It's the same with Quatre. The fragrance looks just like the bottle. The bottle is heavy, shrill and also a little kitschy. As is so often the case with Arabic fragrance houses. On the whole, however, it serves its purpose.

This fragrance is clearly something for the summer and the younger crowd. Absolutely unisex and wearable all day. But I wouldn't wear it when going out. It's just too playful and colorful for that.

Is there more to it than the fragrance pyramid tells us? Nope!

It's common knowledge by now that fragrance pyramids don't end up reflecting all the facets that a fragrance has. However, this is not the case with this one. What we have here is a pure, sparkling orange with sweet mandarin - with no further development, refreshing, longer-lasting than many other summer chemistries, and therefore more than fair.

IV Quatre has also elicited many positive reactions in my environment, which otherwise often reacts cautiously to fragrances (or doesn't respond to them at all). This fruity, candy-like orange was so well received that I had to order this fragrance three times for other people.

Sprayed on, it is exactly what it remains for the duration of its "stay". It lasts for 4-5 hours in my case, after which you can easily top it up. Accordingly, the sillage weakens a little after the first hour and a half. And as critical as I like to be, I am relaxed about this fragrance. Not because I'm one of those people who say: "At this price, I don't mind re-spraying!", but because I actually love the refreshing kick it gives me, because it doesn't smell cheap at all despite its low price.

Conclusion: IV Quatre is a fragrance with no age or gender classification. It is a slightly sweet orange in the bottle, which is exactly what it wants to suggest on the outside. Could there be a fairer deal for the summer?
