Kitchen-y off-putting opening, average drydown

Caraway might have been a better name for this fragrance (or I suppose, "Un Carvi" to keep the theme going) rather than "Un Poivre" (pepper). The opening vegetable-like, spicy and kitchen-y but I wouldn't really call it pepper (if you want a black pepper opening that clears the nostrils, try Honour Man). Dries down to a smoky, slightly soapy vetiver that sort of reminds me of vetiver-heavy department store fragrances like Terre d'Hermès Eau de Toilette. Opening is off-putting, drydown is nothing to write home about. Meh fragrance, leaning towards being actively bad.

Attempt nr. 1000 (pepper, resin, smoke)

Received a sample from a friend.
Peppery, dry and a little smoky. After 30 minutes mainly sharp vetiver and resin. I don't smell the caraway seeds. Too bad, because the scent could have been more interesting with a little sweetness. Silage is moderate, after 1 hour a skinscent.

I've smelled this many times before. And better (Encens Flamboyant by Goutal, Serge Noir, la Fumee intense and ,of course, LADM by Tauer.

The Duel

Without a doubt one of my favorite scents. On my skin, it starts with a strong note of caraway. Aromatic and unpretentious, right off the bat. Hmmm, I take a deep breath of the fragrance. Yes, now the freshly ground pepper joins in. Just as unabashed as the caraway, it strives for dominance. Like two siblings vying for their parents' attention, they call out to me: smell me, smell me, smell me! Oh, my two little treasures, don’t you know that I love you both?
Vetiver smiles shyly. I smile encouragingly back. Meanwhile, cinnamon has simply vanished into thin air. Was it even there? The two spice siblings are just too loud. After they've had their fun, they merge with the vetiver into an almost incense-like scent with a lovingly budding freshness. Perhaps Amyris?
Well, who would have thought?
