Valhalla Paradis des Sens 2023

Those who perceive a "synthetic" quality in this fragrance have likely not encountered genuine fruit aromas. There is nothing artificial about this scent even if there is its really minimal as compared to most fruity fragrances out there. In fact, Erba Pura exhibits a more "synthetic" profile than Valhalla.

Immediately associated Valhalla with a Victoria's Secret body spray. I can't exactly put my finger on which one, but I want to say Love Spell with mango instead of peach.

Valhalla smells like a shower on a tropical vacation, perhaps in one of those outdoor showers. It's still daytime and the sun is shining down. You spent the day shopping in town for a flowy dress to wear and sunbathed on the beach. A sweet, frosty, fruity cocktail is awaiting for you at the resort bar later tonight. Perhaps you're on a girl's trip, or you're with your sugar daddy, but right now, you get a calm moment to yourself in this shower.

Valhalla does a great job of straddling the line of sweetness. It inches toward becoming aggressively sweet, but never actually reaches it. The sweetness is tidal, softly wafting closer, then away.

I don't see myself wearing this scent regularly, but perhaps I will save the remainder of my sample in case I ever find myself on a tropical vacation.

HELLO FRESH FRAGRANCES! These anxiety-inducing sons of guns last for like three hours before you’re like G’Dang It, I gotta pick ANOTHER fragrance to replace this fleeter which has already peter’d out? We’ve all found ourselves sunbathing on the beach, baking in 451 Fahrenheit degree weather, somehow shivering due to the impending doom of our citrus cutie. Fresh frags don’t last, sweetie…it’s La Regle du Jeu (1939).

ENTER VALHALLA. Now, you might spray this baby on and be like…meh. It’s a solid lil fresh fruity citrus fragrance with an all-too-familiar ambrox tonka base, wow, truly original of you Paradis des Sens. As someone who bought a bottle of this like three weeks ago AND wears it multiple times a week, I will be the first to admit this opening is utterly unremarkable. But wait…and you CAN wait…because Valhalla is THERE TO STAY. And unlike so many fragrances that try to hold down the fresh fort with an ambrox-adjecent base, this one never turns aggressive or loud or stupid or annoying. Instead, it starts a little cute but shy and just stays cute. In other words, this is an everlasting summer comfort, the fragrance equivalent of a bottomless tropical cocktail that somehow cures its own hangover before it begins. That’s ultimately why it beat out 75+ competitors in my massive freshie testing spree.

So many beauties with spellbinding openings turn so one-note so fast while Valhalla plays the turtle to those hares, just getting better and better with every hour, with every wear. As someone who balks at the price of fresh LV fragrances despite enjoying the hell out of them and being truly impressed by their performance, I believe that Valhalla is a true competitor to things like Pacific Chill and Afternoon Swim. It’s an immaculately-crafted crowd pleaser that will sparkle and shine for upwards of seven hours and reawakens whenever the pulse quickens or a ray of sunlight strikes it back into song.

September '26 update: After my oudtastic voyage, I was quite expecting this one to fall off a cliff rating-wise just because this perfume is the antithesis of those beauties: synthetic, poppy, and more mall-couture than art. And... yeah, it did (8 -> 6.5). But there's still something really something interesting here. As the fruity and sweet synth elements disappear, you're left with this bizarro transparent sculpture of sorts, a cool chlorinated blast like an iced cocktail left beside a pool. You've drunk 97% of the drink and the remaining 3% swirls among the melting ice, cold water with wisps of mango and the eternal sweetness of cola-water. It is frigid to the touch, powerful, present, some inevitable being that was never planned to be, an apocalyptic silvery biome in a thick glass. And you know what? It's pretty fucking cool.

Is Valhalla a mango perfume? YES it is,but it is a very unique perfume. The mango here is very realistic, but it is leveled up by citrus fruits that usually make fruity fragances more delightful.
This mango perfume is very elegant and what you get is an elegant perfume with mango in it.
I won't use it in the Summer, this perfume will performe better in the Spring or in the Fall.
I DO NOT SEE ANY SIMILARITY WITH ERBA PURA FROM XERJOFF. This perfume is a unique perfume and it has its own DNA.
