Sweet, spicy, and mysterious
I liked the concept behind Scents of Africa and wanted to try their range of scents. This is not an easy fragrance to sample, so I ordered some discovery sets from one of their stockists in NYC. All of the fragrances were interesting. Some I liked more than others. But this. This captured my attention.
The fragrance opens with woody, spicy, and resinous notes. Judging from the opening, it’s an interesting but fairly typical masculine leaning fragrance. But the dry down! The magic is in the dry down. The woodiness retreats and a smooth sweetness comes to the front. The sweet resinous spicy combination is heavenly to my nose. It has pretty decent sillage too. All through the day I get whiffs of that glorious fragrance.
The overall effect is very rich and luxurious which is exactly what they were targeting. This fragrance is meant to evoke the wealth and prosperity of the god Tiurakh, and it does. It reminds me of wooden chests stuffed with mysterious resins, gold, silks, and spices. Though it is marketed as a men’s scent, it strikes me as fairly unisex because of the sweetness. Because I detect so much frankincense it really reminds me of Amouage.
The bottle is teardrop shaped brown glass which fits comfortably in my hand, and the atomizer produces a smooth, fine mist. I can say this because it is one of my few full bottles now!
