Cozy Cottage Kitchen
Lavender, kitchen herbs (rosemary?), floraled honey and beeswax. Woody notes begin to emerge, like damp paper. Perhaps a bit of hay, something that gives this a rustic touch. I love that the lavender doesn't read as too masculine or like laundry detergent. The honey is soft and sweet, not animalic at all. I don't smell any patchouli but I'm pretty insensitive to it so that tracks. The leather note also doesn't really stand out to me; it's there if I'm searching for it, but it's not prominent enough for me to make me think of libraries and old books. I love Athenaeum regardless!

Unisex and fairly wearable. Not cloying, but pretty good performance. I like this for rainy Spring weather, but it would work for any season I think. Jorum Studio never misses!

The image it conjures: Standing by the kitchen window in a cute little cottage in a hamlet with a river and a lumber mill (yes I am imagining Riverwood from Skyrim).

Athenaeum
"Anthaneaum" opens with a fleeting burst of herbal green sweetness, accompanied by a very subtle green apple note that vanishes within seconds, easily missed if you're not paying close attention. As the fragrance progresses into the mid-phase, the sweetness endures, primarily sustained by honey, while the presence of patchouli begins to emerge. The patchouli in "Anthaneaum" bears resemblance to the type found in "Baie 19," characterized by its non-earthiness and lack of a soil-like quality. Instead, it carries a gentle, watery, and green essence.

Compared to the spiciness of "Carduus" or the cumin-like funkiness of "Arborist," "Anthaneaum" exudes a cleaner and simpler aura. It's highly wearable, approachable, and suitable for both men and women. Unlike "Encre Noire," it doesn't have an inky quality. All the notes, including the honey and beeswax, are expertly blended, resulting in a harmonious composition without any one note overpowering the others.

In terms of performance, "Anthaneaum" delivers commendable longevity, although you may need to reapply a few spritzes throughout the day to maintain its presence. This fragrance is well-suited for the warmer months. In essence, it offers a high-quality fusion of green, watery patchouli, accented by hints of hay and a delicate natural sweetness from the honey. There might be subtle traces of oak and leather lurking in the background, becoming discernible only in the very late stages of the drydown, once the green notes have subsided, leaving a faint woody impression.

I like this buzz
This is the kind of scent you want to keep smelling because you can't figure it out. I do smell the beeswax, the ink, the hay. But since these three elements don't come together so much in real life, you don't see a clear picture right away. Yet all the elements are familiar, so you think you should 'see' what this smells like.
Maybe what these three notes have in common is that they all have something comforting or even nostalgic about them. So you're smelling something good from the past, and you have to live with the abstraction.
A separate thought: in a weird way this perfume smells sweet without being sweet. Can't explain it, perhaps it is the beeswax again.

Through Damp Earth to Delicate Plants
Sometimes I encounter a fragrance that takes me on a journey. This one grabs me by the roots of perception and pulls me into a world that is initially tumultuous.

The beginning of this journey is a walk through a garden after two weeks of continuous rain. Bitter herbs rise to the nose, mingled with the deep, slightly sweet aroma of old beeswax and the melancholic scent of decaying leaves lying on steaming, wet earth. A bitter-sweet naturalness, an authentic early autumn or late summer, when the earth is still warm, but the signs of decay are unmistakable. You can smell the moisture rising from the leaves and feel the weight of the rich, inky, leathery earth. Amidst this melancholy, a peculiar beauty shines through.

Slowly but surely, the scent profile shifts. The earthiness, which was so dominant at first, is interwoven with a gentle sweetness. It’s as if the sun is finally sending its warming rays back to the damp earth after the dark days. Delicate signs of life: Fennel peeks out from beneath the surface, accompanied by the gentle, herbaceous freshness of lavender and a subtle green note reminiscent of young leaves. The initial heaviness gives way to a pleasant warmth, infused with a light, almost airy moisture.

In the drydown, another facet unfolds: The floral components now come to the forefront, imparting a lovely softness to the end of the journey. The sweetness intensifies in a fresh way and wonderfully blends with the remaining earthy notes. This gentle, earthy sweetness reminds me of the “earth” in 20|20 - a profound yet never heavy interpretation of it. It’s as if one is walking through a lush, vibrant, steaming garden where the abundant green plants release their fragrance. A hint of lavender and gentian joins in, flanked by the watery freshness of fennel.
What remains is the olfactory impression of an authentic summer.

A fragrance that makes a journey - from the depths of the earth up to the blossoming of life. A refreshingly different scent progression from heavy to juicy light notes, charmingly turning the classic "pyramid" on its head.

Nostalgic trip to childhood summer grounds. Beeswax, fennel & hay, harmless pranks and counting the clouds. Beautiful, sensitive, original.

A super summer day
Lavender blooms, bees buzz
But a wicked hyacinth pushes into summer's joy
Yet earthy wood keeps it all in check

It hits my preference for quirky yet wearable scents. I even like the artistic apple here. It’s both fresh and green, but...

The focus here is on fougère notes (hay, lavender), which are distinctly sweetly blended, creating an interesting tension.
