The Monastery Ruins of North Macedonia
Do you know the ancient monastery ruins in the forests of North Macedonia, dreaming in the ethereal sharp light of bright birch leaves, entwined by fearfully decayed bark in the arms of gnarled trees, sprawling like moss over ancient walls that still remember the oak barrels that carried brandy notes of dark chocolate and pepper? You know that there, in the cognac mist, wild animals hide; you smell their leather, the warm fur, the lure of their trails, which they rubbed like cream against the sweetly bitter sandalwoods. Oh, you could lie down with them. You could drink the pearlescent juice of the flower roots like they do and sink into the forest floor with their wild musk scent.

"Treemoss" by Maya Njie was released in November 2020 and thematizes the wild and the forests around the crumbling monastery ruins of Pelister National Park in North Macedonia. An ethereal fresh, slightly sharp top note of birch leaf is followed by a bark-scented aroma of tree moss, which seemingly absorbs the blended notes of cognac - oak barrel, pepper, bitter dark chocolate - and animalistic musk - warm, sweet-leathery, fur-like. The pearlescent, buttery-earthy-rooty iris and violet root aromas provide further accents and simultaneously create a connection to the earthy-spicy forest floor notes of oak moss as well as the creamy, sweetly bitter sandalwood in the base, which harmoniously combines with the heart notes into a whole. The monastery ruins of North Macedonia smell of a sweetly alcoholic, leathery-animalistic, earthy-rooted tree moss praline, filling the evening and perceptible to moderate.
