Props to Soki London
I was so excited to buy Soki’s first perfume! I love watching her perfume videos on YouTube. I think she has a fantastic way of conveying perfume notes over a screen to perfume lovers all around the world. She used to work at a perfume shop, and we have similar perfume preferences, so I was curious to see what her first perfume would smell like. When she launched her perfume, I bought sample as soon as I could. It arrived quicker than I anticipated! Incredibly affordable. Things took an unexpected turn when I opened the package, though.
First impressions: I absolutely hated it. It smelled rancid, like bug spray. I ended up throwing it in the back of my sample perfumes and would keep trying it occasionally, only to keep being disappointed by it. I was shocked and disappointed. How could so many people detect so many notes in this toxic smelling scent? It doesn’t make any sense!
Eventually I worked up the courage to try it out again today. I sprayed it a bunch of times into my trash can, hoping to clear out the sprayer and wondering if the shipping process just hadn’t been kind to the poor sample. Then came the moment of truth: I sprayed it onto the back of my hand, ready to see if anything had changed… I was pleasantly surprised! Finally! A sweet smell was coming through! Gone was the noxious scent of shipping, replaced by actual scent notes!
In the beginning it does smell very strongly of hairspray (maybe because of the alcohol content of my sample sprayer). As it settles, the strawberry peeks through slightly. It starts smelling more like a strawberry waffle cookie scented hair chemical/product. I think I’m able to get the slight cookie note due to the toffee and popcorn that Soki included in this fragrance.
The dry down is generic and sugary-berry smelling, but it’s sweet in the way unsweetened tea is sweet.
All in all, it was quite an experience to have. I will be using up the rest of my sample. Maybe one day when I have more disposable income I’ll buy a full bottle. I’m hoping a bottle size worth of perfume will bring about the notes more easily so that I can play with it more.
In conclusion, if you happened to have the same initial experience I had, try clearing out the spray head/straw(?) in order to reach the actual fragrance underneath. This wouldn’t be a daily wear for me, but I’d be happy to play with this fragrance when I want a change up in my perfume journey.
