I bow down..
I was searching for my perfect tobacco scent for a very long time. That I found it in a fragrance from Thailand was something I really did not expect.
I generally like tobacco scents, as long as they don't smell too burnt or smoky. Ideally, the fragrance should capture the scent that welcomed me when I entered a tobacco shop in the 2000s.
At that time, flavored tobacco was still widespread, and there were various types of tobacco for sale that were enriched with vanilla or cherry.
This mixture created the perfect smell for me; I would have loved to spend hours in that shop.
By now, the scent in the tobacco shop has long since faded, as vapes have taken over. While there is still pipe tobacco available that has been flavored, it is all packaged in aluminum tins from which no fragrance escapes, and the Peter Heinrichs pipe tobacco cigarettes have not been around for a long time.
Since my fragrance journey began here over five years ago, I have tested countless tobacco scents; many of them were good, such as the underrated "Suerte | La Martina," "Empiryan | Xerjoff," "Sweet Tobacco | 18.21 Man Made," or "Tabacco | Teatro Fragranze Uniche," to name just a few, but none could really capture that special mixture.
When I discovered Latakia here in the souk, the brand meant nothing to me at first, and there were almost no reviews. But one statement claimed that it smelled exactly like the contents of fruity pipe tobacco, and so it came to pass that a blind buy was made.
What can I say, I am smitten. The scent is exactly what I have been searching for all this time. The tobacco is beautifully soft, and the fruits are perfectly realized. I perceive plum and/or cherry. The honey is subtly present and fits excellently; I don't really pick up on the lavender.
I sat on the couch last night, blissfully smiling to myself every time the scent wafted into my nose. The only thing that could be improved is the longevity/sillage; for such a sweet/spicy scent, it could be a bit better. I sprayed it three times yesterday to have some of the scent left in the evening.
So to everyone who has a similar craving for this type of fragrance, THIS is the one. And no, it is not as cloyingly sweet as, for example, Tobacco Vanille Eau de Parfum or other representatives that are also delicious but just a tad too dense and sweet. It doesn't overwhelm; it gives you space and makes you happy. At least it does for me. :-)
