Fiona's magical land
Somewhere a champaka is playing, the sweet membrane of its white leaves vibrates into Fiona's dream world. For a moment, the colors override, the flowers glow at the transition, the song of yellow ylang deafens, shrubs swell with the scent of fruit, resinous smoke flows in dark streams that murmur balsam, amber, the first harsh voices creep through the tart flowers of jasmine, which soon begin to transform, blurring into faces of wild musk, warm haze on the backs of deer, wool of muskrat, a few drops of urine trickling through gray goat hair, to soft leathery cat paws on mulchy spicy tobacco floors, in mists of incense over the barks and black vanilla in damp loam, there's no place like home, there's no place like home..

James Barry from TSVGA, a niche artisan label in Easthampton, Massachusetts, works mainly with natural, high-quality raw materials. He has already changed the recipe for "Fiona" several times; I was allowed to immerse myself in the world of the fifth batch, a landscape that opens with sweet champaca blossoms, narcotic ylang and fruity frangipani notes, embedded in warm balsamic (ambergris), resinous-smoky notes (onycha), which give the overall impression enormous depth from the very beginning. Slightly indolic jasmine forms a bridge to the animalistic aromas that soon become more pronounced. Warm musk from deer and skunk as well as the slightly tobacco-like, leathery notes of hyraceum and civet are easily perceptible for me, spicy goat hair comes to light from time to time, slightly uriney-wool-like muskrat scents give some edge over a base of various ouds (incensy, bark-mulchy, earthy), unsweet dark vanilla and oakmosses.
"Somehow, it all balances out, despite much of the formula being some very potent and smelly animalics. Indolic features of the floral absolutes dance with animalics and the sweeter elements to create a harmony that is a dream of a fragrance. High quality ouds hold it all together throughout the long journey of each wearing." Barry himself very aptly describes the grandiose interplay of the notes. Fiona's enchanting land projects itself perceptibly through several dream phases.

old fashioned (with so much quality) But… too much
it is as simple as it is difficult. contrasts of many notes, many wonderful but difficult to use ingredients. I note with interest many animal parts, true raw and real, Ambergris and flowers. all this beautiful, but not very usable. I repeat myself, beautiful but too dense. all too much. I bought it in travel format, I will keep it in my collection but I will not use it for the outings
