Dreamily Beautiful

Noble...the first thought when I spray this wonderful fragrance is always simply noble, dreamily beautiful. A scent that I have owned for many years and it is still the first bottle, not because I don't like it but because the moment just has to be right. I wear this fragrance only on special occasions, weddings, important business meetings, and only when I need its moral support. This scent embodies for me something that is hard to describe, you put it on and are instantly in another world.
A world full of sophistication and luxury, freedom and adventure......I find myself by the sea, no not the North Sea, it’s more like Italy, a lukewarm autumn evening and I am sitting on a luxury boat with friends, the right champagne in hand and this light scent of wanderlust is in the air, it smells just like one would imagine the scent of such a luxury boat, of the sea yes aquatic, of leather without leather being present, of tobacco and basil at the very beginning.....you can smell the wood of the decking and the wooden fittings on the ship, although I suspect it’s a blend of cedarwood, vetiver, and pepper........

Everything truly beautiful must essentially be useless

The three Riva fragrances share a common concept that repeatedly references the eponymous sports boats. The three perfumes are - one might say - high-quality aquatic scents, whose packaging recalls the wooden planks and whose shiny cap resembles the chrome of the Riva boats. The same goes for the imitation of a boat screw embedded under a Plexiglas cover on the top of the cap.

The light brown color of Follia di Aquarama reflects the hue of the mahogany wood from which the Aquaramas are built. L'Altra Follia di Aquarama shines in the azure blue of the Cote d`Azure, where buyers of the Aquaramas held illustrious gatherings in the 50s and 60s. From Gunter Sachs to Brigit Bardot, Sean Connery, Sophia Loren, Aga Khan, and Onassis, everyone owned a Riva sports boat.

But now to the essence, the scent. I have already mentioned that it is an aquatic fragrance. This theme remains present throughout the entire scent journey. In the top note, various fresh and fruity elements join the fragrance, but nothing overly citrusy. Kiwis and black currants set the tone here. The oil of Yuzu, a plant related to lemon but with a more complex scent, contributes to the freshness. This is well done, but I find the black currant a bit too dominant, and the entire top note is a tad too sweet for my taste. However, this is forgivable as it remains quite close to the skin. The heart note continues with an oceanic, spicy, and transparent character. Water lilies and aquatic accents, cinnamon, cardamom, and cumin contribute to this. I like this much better, but the fragrance truly shows its strength in the dry down, when teak and cedar blend with vetiver, labdanum, and amber into a warm, now subtly sweet woody note. Since it is an EdP, you also get to enjoy the base note for quite a while.

One can certainly associate the scent with vacation, late summer, sun, water, and warmth, but there is no talk of madness (Follia) or next-level madness (L'Altra Follia) when it comes to these fragrances. Everything is too harmonious, too straightforward for that. The scent is sporty-elegant, like the boats. However, I would only wear it in the high summer evenings, as its sweet side would otherwise be too overpowering for me.
