One Among Many...or Not?
Honos is an old term from Latin meaning "honorable" and "dignified," referring to a man with great virtues, a model of strength and perfection. "...an exclusive blend of sophistication and a mysterious aura."
Yes, dear perfumers... you have found the magic lamp bottle. The search is over. A spritz on your target object is enough, and your dream man stands before you.

Critical voices whisper that this is just another advertising bubble. However, it would be worth a try... the chosen one will certainly keep quiet, as he is not averse to the aforementioned potion.

Why does Honos fit into my personal taste profile:
The scent taste develops on Parfumo, (for me) not only positively. One smells and evaluates fragrances differently than the people around them. Each scent is tested and rated on its own, regardless of whether it is wearable... "stinking" becomes relative. It can happen quite quickly that you wake up in the morning and, thanks to Parfumo, smell like the new Ritter Sport variety "Ginger-Pumpkin Schnitzel with Whole Hazelnuts."

Possible outcomes:
- A bottle collection full of art objects that please my perfume nose
- A bottle collection full of art objects that I actually don't want to spray

There are fragrances that move between mainstream and niche. Somewhere between shower gel and unbelievably expensive art object. Honos is a classic scent that you feel you've already smelled a thousand times at first whiff. My perfume nose needed several attempts to understand what "added value" it has for me and my nose. Once the slightly alcoholic opening has faded, a scent emerges that is fresh with a certain sweet spiciness.

Honos is not: heavy / cloying / musty / dark / old-fashioned / creamy / dark / gourmand / animalic / excessively expensive / loud / extravagant / blümerant...and most importantly ==> I don't smell any clove ;-)

But rather: Fresh / modern-classic / sophisticated / grown-up / absolutely suitable for everyday wear / a bit barbershop / slightly sweet-spicy and balanced

An unexciting scent for people who are grounded in life and looking for a fragrance that strikes a balance between mainstream and niche. Nothing special, yet one of the needles in the perfume haystack that I am searching for. Even though I have about 20 fragrances in my collection, I don't want to have to think long about which one to reach for. Honos is safe without being boring, and that's a good thing ;-)

The longevity is good, and the sillage is in the moderate middle range.

Enjoy spraying!

British Style for Every Occasion
What attributes would I use to describe a good all-rounder for men?

FRESH - logically, because it suits every season.
WOODY - provides a masculine, enduring base.
SPICY - in moderate doses, this makes a fragrance interesting.
CLEAN - so one doesn’t clash anywhere.
WARM - is part of feeling good.
NATURAL - the return to the original has a calming effect.
TIMELESS - because truly beautiful things do not follow fashion.

All of this applies to Honos for me. No matter the age, occasion, or season - with this fragrance, one does nothing wrong. I must admit that it took a few testing days before I could truly appreciate Honos. Initially, a slight sweetness bothered me, which I now hardly notice. Instead, this fragrance, as has been described multiple times in other comments, consists of a harmonious balance of the mild sharpness of pepper, the green-spicy sage, and the warmer accents, particularly cinnamon; nutmeg and lavender are perceptible in a gentler form. Thus, Honos is not a true fougère, but it does have classic barbershop accents and a slightly alcoholic touch. Carried by the subtly employed strength of sandalwood, this fragrance lingers for several hours before it transforms in a surprising way. The other notes of the base accord now come forward more strongly, allowing me to filter out nuances of incense and feel a pleasant warmth that provides a calm aura to conclude.

Another argument for Honos is the excellent price-performance ratio. The longevity is decent at around seven hours, the sillage is rather moderate, but with the 100 milliliters you get, one can confidently spray more/reapply. I believe that Honos is made for (almost) every age and clearly distinguishes itself from the current mainstream trends as well as from some of the aging men’s classics. Its wearer never appears overly perfumed or attention-seeking, but rather exudes British understatement.

I'll rewrite you! [#2]
I would never forgive myself if the fragrance were discontinued because no one took notice of it. My options are limited. If I buy everything to keep the store going, I will become completely broke. If I stock up too much, the juice will go stale, so I have to make an effort to get other noses to embrace this scent and thus ensure continuity. After all, it should accompany me for a long time.

At the same time, I want to raise the question of what the record is for reinterpreting the same fragrance in a comment. I fear I might have to break it. I care a lot about this venerable scent, which already suggests in its name that one should keep an eye on it.

Okay, the bottle does nothing; it is inconspicuous, banal, and no one wants to discuss it. Neither do I.

I had Cacharel pour L'Homme as my signature scent for over 20 years and grew tired of the juice after reformulations. Terre d'Hermès took on this role last year, but I notice that it doesn't fully convince me mood-wise, especially in this current season. Either I change my strategy and appoint a signature scent for each season, or I look for an interim solution and see how it performs.

And this is exactly the process I am currently in.

Maybe Creed's marketing could take care of this knight, spruce him up, and then release him back onto the battlefield of opinions.

What do I actually like about Honos?

He is not an extremist, not a braggart, not a macho, but subtly present. Equipped with a wonderfully juicy Muscat spice that can also be worn well in the warmer season. It could be an unpublished staging by Penhaligon's, the big brother of Endymion, instead of coffee, a Muscat with depth and a splash of Almdudler for a hint of freshness. It has a longevity of +6 hours.

Only while the young man knows how to please from the first second, Honos takes a good 10 minutes until the alcohol vapors clear and the picture becomes clearer. For several more minutes, a leather impression also lingers, not as a soloist, to my happiness.

For me, this fragrance is an attempt to take the best from Endymion and Heaven by Chopard (both lavender bombs) and create something new, beautiful, and yet edgy. Perhaps an option for those gentlemen for whom Endymion is too quiet or too rounded, or simply for anyone looking for a universally applicable spicy scent that does not conform to the trend of sweet spices like "The One" and co. and at the same time is owned by almost no one (on Parfumo, there are just 2, correction now 3 *yay*, noses, myself included).

Honos is, for me, a modern gentleman, and before I forget, dear ladies, have courage. There is nothing in it that would cast you in a bad light.

A classic-modern-old-school new fragrance!
People will think, What? But that's exactly what defines the scent! But let's start from the beginning...

By chance, as often happens to me in this forum, I was browsing through various collections of perfumes here. Time and again, I saw Honos, then Junzi... and also Sinsa. Everyone who owns/has owned the fragrance was just as enthusiastic about it as I am today. Each of these Gentlemen's Tonics has its lovers and advocates! Unfortunately, I haven't been able to test the other two yet. But that will follow... (Here again, a huge thanks to our Duftboy1966 who arranged a decant for me)

Day 1: Honos is joyfully unscrewed from the padded envelope and carefully applied to shirt and skin... Huh? What is this? I had imagined a real powerhouse! But what came was rather damp and secretive... hardly noticeable! I blamed it on my nose, which once again simply wasn't willing enough to get to know such a masterpiece properly... olfactory nose collapse!

Day 2: New test. Applied in the morning after showering, I already notice. Today is a bit different? More projection... There's more to it! Once again, a sign of hasty conclusions, what a blunder? :D But still, the longevity was borderline... However, my colleague said: Wow, you smell good today! So be it.

Day 3: Sprayed in the morning, reapplied at noon. A colleague immediately ordered a bottle... perfect! Was at a birthday party in the evening, no one had an opinion about it.

Day 4: Honos break.

But now the turning point:
This morning I opened my wardrobe. What a fragrant scent is wafting towards me? The shirt I wore two days ago at the birthday party was the culprit!
A masculine, warm wave of a well-scented gentleman hit my nose! #Barbershop #classic #fresh #modern #oldschool (possibly in reference to the "Heaven" that I don't know) #newbie
This was a scent that I could imagine wearing every day!

Once again, the sillage is the secret that defines the fragrance!
With each wear of the scent, new facets emerge that make it a modern as well as classic all-rounder that today receives acceptance from all sides, never clashes, and gives the wearer elegance.

Here, Gentlemen's Tonic truly manages to strike a balance between mainstream and niche! Applause!
The bottle is unremarkable, straightforward, classic yet modern! Just like the scent itself.
The sprayer dispenses the right amount...

The longevity could still use a bit of work, but reapplying is really no problem here.
(At €50 for 100ml + cream + shower gel)
And once again, I am one step closer in my search for the one true scent... This one wasn't it, but it's going in the right direction and I'm glad to have found it here!

I assume that the scent I have been searching for so long is the bygone Heaven!

#scentofchildhood #discontinued #isthereagooddupe?

Thanks for reading :)

Oldschool, high-class modernized
It would be relatively easy to categorize Honos as "classically boring." Neither the numbers, data, facts on paper nor the first scent impression convey anything innovative or unprecedented. So why is it still worth engaging with Honos? It has class.

First of all, Honos is a very straightforward men's fragrance. Citrus and pepper are very prominent at the beginning. Then the scent shifts to the spicy, with a grand appearance of sage. Lavender and cinnamon add a slight, well-measured sweetness. The base consists of woody and warm notes. So far, so familiar - a quite typical pattern for a men's perfume. What is, however, distinctly unusual is the quality. From the extremely natural pepper in the top note, through the zesty sage, to the creamy musk in the drydown. Everything feels incredibly high-quality and elegant. The melt in the drydown is, by the way, probably the most beautiful I have ever perceived in such a consistently fresh fragrance.

In short: This is not about reinventing the (scent) wheel. Instead, something familiar and tried-and-true is presented in a modern way and at the highest level. In times of faster-higher-louder, Honos radiates stylish consistency for me. And that in the truest sense of the word. The sillage is not particularly loud, but incredibly delicious and significantly enhances the direct scent impression on the skin. So it is also a treat for the environment.

Quality and class. Style and level. The world could certainly use a bit more Honos! Many thanks to RobGordon for the very generous sample that made this test possible.

"Hey, I'm a nice men's fragrance," shouted Honos the Gentleman. "We know," replied the other 10,000 men's fragrances: "So do we!"

Just a classic men's fragrance. This used to be called aftershave. This is how you imagine it: the scent for the man. Classic. Fresh.
