ode to the eponym
Etat Libre d'Orange is truly one of my favorite fragrance brands! The quality is astonishing, and the variety they offer is impressive. The playful names and the allusions embedded in each scent give every perfume a unique identity. Like here with De Sades classic Justine. For me, it perfectly reflects French culture, with its complex references and literary allusions brought into the realm of sensory experience. This brand embodies intelligence and skill having fun.

Black Allrounder
I fell in love with this perfume especially when I wear it and the smell gets in my nose again. To me it’s this feeling of completely getting absorbed into this velvet world. It’s the perfect combination of rough “male” leather sent and sweet delicate note. The transition from one note to the other is so flowing which makes it a perfect fragrance. A warm recommendation for both genders

Coloured pencil strokes
When I think of this perfume I think of colours, of brushstrokes with cheerful colours. It is definitely a good everyday perfume with its playful and energetic presents. Especially for me working with art I found myself mirrored in this perfume. A very different approach to many complex perfumes with its different nuances. Here a lot is going on but it does not feel overwhelming, even though the notes are not all subtle. Maybe it’s an ode to the inner child in all of us and does not want to appear heavy and sophisticated, but playful and light-hearted. The wording of the name hits it on the head – crayon – if a coloured pencil would be a smell – it is this.

New York City in the 2000s
For me definitely a good representation of the 2000s. The citrusy fresh smell alines very well with the clean design of the flacon – which I associate with the shiny skyscrapers fronts of New York City (Donna Karan New York), the same goes for the bold big writing of the brand. The smell is also very representative of the time with it’s clean nuances, nearly gender neutral fitting to the clean advertisements such the classic Calvin Klein advertisements and the metallic, cooling colours all around. Definitely a good companion over the years! A little edgy and fresh – very well suiting for everyday life.

Summernights in the South
This perfume reminds me of the hibiscus smell of nights in Andalusia. Very well interpretation of the famous flower. In contrast to it’s brother fragrance Ikat Jasmine it lasts much longer and creates this rich feminine auspicious aura around you. Even though it is very sweet it still have a delicate and complex angle, different to “only sweet”, candy perfumes. The best summer perfume I can imagine!
