Chasing the dopamine high… the way of the fraghead?
With social media, we’ve become accustomed to associating with like minded souls where we amplify our pleasure by echoing similar opinions, likes or dislikes. Just like that and in few weeks, I went from a solo fragrance enthusiast to a member of a tribe, few tribes actually. It’s awesome, I learned a lot and I met beautiful people who became my friends albeit electronically.
However, my real life friends and family cannot understand my hobby. They see that I cannot smell any nicer than I actually do right now and think I have too big a collection to be able to enjoy it or even to use it up before the fragrances go off. In fact, they see that I have a problem! I suppose just like any hobby not to say addiction, this may lead to mild or serious levels of enabling.
Is it about loving fragrances? Or is it about chasing that high we experience when we discovered our first niche fragrance? Are we simply hoarders?
At first you’re chasing the new scents, the various combinations of notes and accords. You’re building a database of flavours and sensations, then it kind of hits a plateau and you become a collector. Then, suddenly panic sets in!
I think sometimes, most times, I feel the need to downsize but as soon as I start to assemble a list and prepare to part with some creations I seem to reconnect with them. I remember the story behind each bottle et voilà ..
I do feel this sometimes that I am spending far too much time on a hobby and sometimes it comes with a baseline of unexplained anxiety! Exactly, a fear of what it might be ;)
My dopamine lately? Red Tobacco Mancera💪🏾
The “chasing” however is very enjoyable…untill your banc account tells you otherwise lol.
Today i realise that sometimes ..”less is more”. Last night went to dinner and had Roja Dove parfum de la Nuit 2 on…..
I guess we are all in the same boat :)
I’m always amazed when I stumble on a new fragrance that challenges my senses.
