Classic, Rugged, Masculine, Iconic
Creed's Green Irish Tweed (GIT) is a classic fragrance released in 1985. It was the first niche fragrance I purchased. The totality of the scent reminds me of a very kind older gentleman who lived across the street from me as a young child. Mr. Brown (I do not remember his first name) had the smell of cut grass, swimming pool chemicals, barbershop aftershave, Irish Spring soap (the 1970's version), beer and cigarettes. For some reason, when I wear GIT I always think of him.

GIT is made up of a blend of grassy, green notes and a woody, musky base, which give it a masculine and sophisticated vibe. Some of the key notes in the fragrance include violet leaves, sandalwood, and iris, which work together to create a unique and memorable scent.

The scent's formulation was reportedly inspired by the Irish countryside and was meant to evoke the fresh, green landscapes of Ireland. The name "Green Irish Tweed" is a nod to the lush, green tweed fabric that is traditionally associated with Ireland.

In terms of performance, Creed Green Irish Tweed is known for its lasting power and versatility. It is a long-lasting fragrance that can easily last for 8-10 hours, making it a great choice for those who want a fragrance that will last throughout the day. It is also versatile enough to be worn for a variety of occasions, from casual to formal. My most recent bottle required more than my usual three sprays to maintain performance. I'm apparently not alone in my belief that performance of the scent has suffered over the last 40 years.

The packaging of Creed Green Irish Tweed is iconic of the brand. The fragrance comes in the sleek, rectangular bottle that is classic and understated. The bottle is made of heavy, high-quality glass and has a simple, elegant design that is characteristic of Creed fragrances.

Overall, Creed Green Irish Tweed is a classic fragrance that is known for its clean, fresh scent and long-lasting performance. It is a great choice for those who want a versatile fragrance that can be worn for a variety of occasions. The packaging is also top-notch, making it a great gift option for the fragrance lover in your life.

Music Association: Here is a playlist that may evoke the feeling of Creed's Green Irish Tweed:

"The Auld Triangle" by The Pogues
"Galway Girl" by Ed Sheeran
"The Wild Rover" by The Dubliners
"The Rocky Road to Dublin" by The High Kings
"The Fields of Athenry" by The Dubliners
"The Irish Rover" by The Dubliners
"Whiskey in the Jar" by Thin Lizzy
"Irish Heartbeat" by Van Morrison
"Green Fields of France" by The Fureys
"Irish Blessing" by Loreena McKennitt

This playlist features traditional Irish folk songs that may evoke the feeling of the lush, green Irish countryside, the inspiration for GIT. The songs feature a mix of upbeat, energetic melodies and slower, more contemplative ballads, which may capture the fresh, grassy notes and woody, musky base of the fragrance.

80's Sophistication Still Relevant Today, and at an Unbelievable Price
Giorgio for Men was released in 1981 by Giorgio Beverly Hills, and was considered to be the more sophisticated cousin of its competitor Polo (Green). This spicy, classic, barbershop scent has stood the test of time.

The formulation of Giorgio for Men is complex and sophisticated, blending together a variety of notes to create a unique and luxurious scent. The top notes include a combination of lavender, green notes, and bergamot, which give the fragrance a fresh and invigorating opening. The heart of the fragrance is a blend of jasmine, pine tree needles, and oakmoss, which add depth and richness to the scent. The base notes are a combination of patchouli, cedar, and amber, which help to ground the fragrance and provide a long-lasting finish.

It is a truly masculine fragrance that exudes confidence and sophistication. The lavender and green notes give it a bright and crisp opening, while the jasmine and oakmoss add a touch of elegance and refinement. The base notes of patchouli and cedar give it a woody and earthy finish, making it perfect for both day and night wear. Some may consider it a soapy finish, which I would agree to as long as you are referring to a designer soap and not Dial or Irish Spring.

Giorgio for Men was designed by the late Fred Hayman, a pioneer in the world of fragrance and fashion. In addition to Giorgio Beverly Hills, Hayman also founded the luxurious Rodeo Drive boutique, which became a celebrity hotspot in the 1980s. He was known for his impeccable taste and his ability to create luxurious and timeless fragrances that appealed to a wide audience.

The packaging of Giorgio for Men is simple and elegant, with a classic blue and white color scheme. The bottle is a classic rectangular shape with a heavy glass construction and a simple silver cap. The fragrance is housed in a sturdy cardboard box with a blue and white color scheme that matches the bottle. I love the feel of this bottle and it is unbelievable quality at this price. I believe the newest bottles are nearly exact copies of the original from 40 years ago.

In terms of performance, Giorgio for Men is a long-lasting fragrance that projects well and leaves a lasting impression. It can be worn throughout the day and into the evening, making it a versatile choice for any occasion. Being a sophisticated elegant scent it is probably best worn buy older gentlemen. But this is one of my 20-something son's favorite scents -- but he is a bit of an old soul.

Overall, Giorgio for Men is a classic fragrance that is sure to impress and is a must-have for any man's fragrance collection, especially given its ridiculously low price. I will always keep a bottle on hand.

Music Association: Being a classic, masculine scent that is often associated with luxury and sophistication, the scent is a blend of woody, earthy, and spicy notes and is intended to be worn by confident, stylish men. Here is my suggested playlist for music that pairs well with the Giorgio for Men fragrance:

"Mood Indigo" by Duke Ellington
"Blue Train" by John Coltrane
"Round Midnight" by Thelonious Monk
"Take Five" by Dave Brubeck
"Come Together" by The Beatles
"Satisfaction" by The Rolling Stones
"Sweet Child o' Mine" by Guns N' Roses
"Rock and Roll" by Led Zeppelin

Popular for a Reason
Bleu de Chanel Eau de Toilette for men is a fragrance that exudes sophistication, confidence, and effortless style. Its fresh and invigorating top notes of citrus and mint, which provide a burst of energy and vitality, is geared for young (at heart) men. A compliment getter to be sure, but it is quite common, so the compliments tend to come from girls and old women who have not had exposure to the scent before.

As the fragrance develops on the skin, the heart notes of jasmine, labdanum, and nutmeg come into focus, adding depth and complexity to the scent. These notes add a warm and spicy touch that is both tantalizing and alluring, without being overpowering.

The base notes of sandalwood, patchouli, and vetiver provide a strong and lasting foundation for the fragrance, giving it a masculine and grounded finish that lingers on the skin long after it has been applied.

Bleu de Chanel Eau de Toilette is versatile, though I view it a bit too citrusy for cold weather days.

The packaging of Bleu de Chanel Eau de Toilette is also worth mentioning. The sleek and minimalist design of the bottle is the perfect representation of the scent itself – understated, yet refined and luxurious. The signature blue bottle color is a bold and eye-catching touch that adds to the overall appeal of the fragrance, and entices me to consider applying each time I stare at my collection debating the day's choice.

Overall, Bleu de Chanel Eau de Toilette is a must-have for any man looking to elevate his fragrance collection. Its sophisticated and versatile scent, combined with its iconic packaging, make it a classic choice that is sure to never go out of style.

Music Association: "Suit & Tie" by Justin Timberlake (with help from Jay-Z), released in 2013. This smooth and stylish track has a similar energy and sophistication to Bleu de Chanel Eau de Toilette. The lyrics, which speak to the importance of dressing to impress and putting one's best foot forward, could easily be interpreted as a nod to the importance of choosing the right fragrance to complete one's look.

A Smooth Operator, 80's Older Gent Scent
Paul Sebastian Men's Eau de Cologne is a classic fragrance that has stood the test of time since its launch in 1979. As a man of the 1980s, I remember this scent being all the rage, with its sleek bottle and stylish advertising campaigns.

But beyond the surface level glitz and glamour of the perfume's pop culture presence, there is a depth and complexity to the scent itself that has kept it relevant and beloved for over four decades.

At first spritz, the top notes of cinnamon, lavender and green notes immediately grab the attention, providing a refreshing and invigorating opening. As the fragrance begins to dry down, the heart notes of jasmine and rose come through, adding a subtle floral depth that is both romantic and sophisticated. The base notes of amber, musk, and sandalwood round out the scent, providing a warm and masculine finish that lingers on the skin.

But what really sets Paul Sebastian Men's Eau de Cologne apart is its versatility. It is a scent that can be worn just as easily to the office as it can to a black tie event. Its balanced blend of fresh and floral notes make it suitable for most occasions, and its power ensures that you will leave a lasting impression long after you've left the room.

However, it is more of a winter/fall scent for sure and some may consider it an old man's scent, and I would not vigorously disagree. My wife does not particularly care for it, actually, so I tend to wear it when I'm about town solo.

In the 1980s, Paul Sebastian Men's Eau de Cologne was a fragrance of choice for suave and stylish men about town. And while fashions may come and go, this timeless scent remains a staple for any discerning gentleman's fragrance collection.

And at the cheap price, why not try it?

Musical Association: "Smooth Operator" by Sade, released in 1984. This sultry and seductive song, with its elegant sound, could be seen as a perfect match for a sophisticated and refined fragrance like Paul Sebastian Men's Eau de Cologne. The lyrics, which speak to the charms of a mysterious and irresistible love interest, could be interpreted as a metaphor for the allure of the scent itself.

Not just for Old Men
As I stood in NYC's specialty perfume store Aedes de Venustas, surrounded by the overwhelming array of fragrances on offer, I couldn't help but feel a sense of frustration. How was I to choose just one scent, when each seemed more alluring than the last? It was then that I caught sight of a bottle that seemed to stand out from the rest.

The label read "Floris No. 89," and upon closer inspection, I was immediately struck by its elegant design. The bottle itself was a work of art, with its sleek curves and shimmering glass. And as I sprayed a small sample on my wrist, I was immediately struck by the complexity of the scent.

But what truly set Floris No. 89 apart from the rest was its rich history. Floris, the esteemed British perfumer, has been creating finely crafted fragrances for over three centuries. And No. 89, named for the Floris HQ in Westminster on Jermyn Street where it was first sold, has long been a favorite of the British royal family and the aristocracy.

The top notes of bergamot and lemon are sharp and invigorating, a perfect balance to the rich, woody base of sandalwood and cedar. And as the fragrance develops on my skin, the heart of jasmine and ylang-ylang emerges, adding a floral depth that was both alluring and refined. It is a scent that is equal parts intellect and emotion, a perfect balance of logic and intuition.

Along with several other niche fragrances, I purchased the bottle of Floris No. 89 and left the shop.

As the days passed, I found myself reaching for No. 89 time and time again, drawn to its complex and captivating aroma. It is not just simply an old-man's scent, but rather, a reminder of the simplicity, elegance and wisdom of the past. It is a scent that exudes sophistication and refinement, qualities that I hope all men, young and old, will strive to embody as they navigate the ups and downs of life.

In short, Floris No. 89 is a scent that may inspire you to pursue your passions with grace and determination, always striving to be your best self. It is a fragrance with a rich history and a timeless appeal that I would wholeheartedly recommend to any man seeking to make a statement with his scent choice. But more than just a fragrance, No. 89 represents a legacy of excellence and true craftsmanship.

Music Association: "I've Got You Under My Skin" by Frank Sinatra, released in 1956. This classic and sophisticated track has a similar energy and refinement to Floris No. 89. The lyrics, which speak to the idea of being irresistibly drawn to someone or something, could be interpreted as a metaphor for the alluring and captivating nature of the fragrance.
