Rustic and Elegant... Though Maybe Too Mature?
So, I’ll totally admit this was a TikTok influenced blind buy… and at first I really thought PerfumeTok had done me real dirty. When I first got it I had a viscerally negative reaction to it. All I got was overwhelming smokiness and musk. I love hints of those notes in fragrances, but I’m finding they’re not my favorite when they’re dominant. Needless to say, I quickly scrubbed it off and assumed I’d fallen prey to social media hype.
However, I put it to the side and resolved to give it a second chance at some point - and I’m so glad I did. Looking back, I think I’d been on a kick of sampling super sweet gourmands the day this fragrance arrived and my nose had been conditioned to expect sweeter notes and had an over-reaction when this was so different.
At first spray it’s smoky, but not overwhelmingly so. I actually got a citrus note which oddly isn’t listed, though as it dried down it morphed into something more like candied raspberry. I think that’s the violet. At about 30 minutes into the the dry down it had evolved into a beautifully sweet incense fragrance. There is a slight powder note to it, but it’s resinous and textured at its foundation. Dolce de Cuerpo is a very sophisticated fragrance and might come across too mature for some, but it’s definitely worth sampling if you’re curious.
