Bois Marocain old vs new.
I feel the need to write my first review now. Tom Ford Bois Marocain. I have the first version from 2009 and the new one. One of my concerns is to debunk the notion that this fragrance was so much better in the past than it is now.
It's simply the case that everyone grows with their fragrance journey. You smell a fragrance 13 years ago and are completely blown away. Then the fragrance is discontinued, and you place it on a mental pedestal. Many years later, it is released again, and when you smell it for the first time... oh man, it's not like it used to be... Much worse...
In reality, you have grown through all your fragrance experiences and perceive many scents differently.
The example of Bois Marocain illustrates this very well. They smell almost identical. The old 2009 batch is a bit spicier at the start. But that's it. With the 2009 batch, you have the same fragrance experience as in 2023. However, it is an experience that I truly appreciate.
Balsamic, woody, slightly spicy, rather calm and meditative. I love it. No matter which version.
