Didn't manage to take me back to the forests of Scotland
Piney and smoky tarry cypriol opening to the arborist, dark and very green, heavy sappy evergreens As it works it's way in a bit of sweetness enters lightening and earthy roasted facets remiscent of coffee touched light florals take a place alongside the resiny evergreen scent balancing it.
Projection is pretty soft but present, mostly in the floral/sweet aspects of the scent. Would like this to have a stronger woody presence overall.
This perfume is an ode to he Scottish wilderness, per it's presser, and I wanted to see if it could take me back to my adventures in Scotland birdwatching in the Cairngorms. Ultimately it was not a transportive experience, it didn't bring me back there which was asking a bit much I suppose, but would have been nice. The scent itself is not unpleasant but doesn't hook to captivate me.
Delivers on its promises.
Incense crush Pepper and herbs in the open with incense immediately. Burnt/charred herb. Gets a bit dull and cardboardy with light pepper after this it continues with a smokey vibe. Smokey/peppery in the projection, the cardboard is only up close. The smoke vibe is very vetiver overall.
Projection in this is quite large. 'smoke incense, vetiver and sawdust bomb' were the words my partner used.
Doesn't change or evolve much after the initial charred herbs opening. Remains with smoke and peppery frankincense. There is no sweetness here, just dry smoky facets of wood and resin. Dark and heavy.
Caramelly patchouli
The fragrance opens with a dominant plasticky note, and until that passes, it isn't the most pleasant scent, mostly as it is the biggest dog in the yard.
As that fades it becomes bit more floral. Which is welcome after the plastic. The interesting draw of this scent is definitely in the patchouli, no surprise, given the name. The patchouli is simultaneously earthly and caramel like. The rich caramel facets Really make it stand out among other patchouli scents and provide a unique experience. This one is very pleasant accordingly.
Unfortunately it was plagued with typical Tom Ford longevity and projection - ie both are pretty low. Such is life, this isn't available anymore anyway.
Has distinct phases but none grabbed me.
opens with a dry leather, over a powdery Jasmin deep in there under it. Maybe a tiny bit of citrus hinted at here and there.
Leather fades back and we get a Jasmin forward amber. Soft, warm, smoky, and lightly powdery. Frankincense starts to come in after the first hour on top of this mix adding a nice incense to the ongoing over benzoin adding light vanillic facets. Leather is gone at this stage left behind for a resinous oriental style base.
Maybe headache inducing for me will need to try again.
A bizarre dichotomy of a chill gardening scent.
Polish potatoes. Opens citrus and slight greens and earth . Smells likes a garden with potatoes in it. As it develops it has a bit of light floral lift and waxiness. The beet accord is relatively identifiable as well, earthy, very mildly spicy. Spiciness starts to increase around the first hour. Further dry down is a spicy resinous scent.
It is kind of grass and dirt and planting, putting your hands in the soil. Evocative of the act of gardening when you smell your hands and feel the soil in them.
The scent is very low key, tame, not overly daring except in the fact it is being marketed under potatoes and capturing a feeling of gardening. These are not high intensity tasks. They are a chance to revel in mundanity, and this does make mundanity a bit more interesting. To make a fragrance so mundane as to go in this direction is a rather interesting choice.
Now here's the twist. My partner. She says this scent is powerful. She smells it from across the apartment. She doesn't like it. Even in the deep dry down, she says I smell 'musty', and it is still very very green (I get none of this). I am curious, is there some kind of weird nose blindness going on here? Usually noise blind is much more all or nothing for me, not a completely different facets and profile. This has me highly amused as for me it is a polite , easy going gardening scent, for her, not so much (while smelling it on me).
