I am REALLY shocked....
One thing up front, I would love to rate this fragrance if the difference between vintage (1st Lancaster version) and today's (mid-2020 batch) wasn't so severe....

I encountered the fragrance (again) a few years ago. The first time smelled; immediately taken back to early youth. So brutal as with this fragrance I have NEVER experienced. Although I could not track down to this day, who wore it, but this someone, and this fragrance must have played a big role in that time. A time that let me feel only positive things associated with this fragrance.
Alone for nostalgia reasons, the fragrance burned itself into my brain, until I finally bought a bottle of it. Already there it was the Coty variant, but the comparison to the vintage version I did not know until then. I was satisfied... until the bottle flew to the floor after infrequent wear and the contents spread all over it.... The bathroom smelled for days afterwards....
Thus ordered a new bottle, this time from 2020... somehow pack me no longer... everything so brutally synthetic, the floral chords stand out immensely, the sweetness was also no longer the, as I once perceived it... maybe it's my nose, but maybe it was reformulated again? Durability and sillage - although still good - no longer so strong... or am I about odor-blind become?

By chance here in the Souk (thanks again) get a full vintage cornflower--version.
What can I say?

I could have cried... I was overwhelmed... Shit, YAAAA!!! THIS is it!!! So present as never before! So brutally full-bodied, the finest cherry juice, slightly tart at the beginning (which is both completely missing in the current version) and this irresistible sweetness that lingers for hours! The vanilla, which I find discreet and only appears in the background over time, the finely integrated floral chords (where does this synthetic crap come from the current version, which was skillfully and only discreetly used in the Vintage?) and the subtle sandalwood note, which increases somewhat towards the end. Funnily enough, the sandalwood comes with me at my elbows more strongly than in other places, and how should it be otherwise; never as pungent and synthetic as in the current version.
Just everything much more elegant... Would pass today in my opinion as a niche fragrance!

Sillage and durability in this version really a beast. Is loved by my girlfriend. I think you mentioned in the first hour every 5 minutes, how good I would smell yet (when she tried the current variant at home, she said it would be a completely different fragrance!)
The presence lingers for several hours, which is extreme for my skin. Even after a good 24h you can still smell him skin.

I can understand that today's version is hated by some.... but how on earth could not love this vintage version!? Although so on the face, but also so awesome!
Funnily enough, I personally think that today's version smells much more vintage than this one I just described....

What have they just done with you!?

I must confess, however: If you do not know the vintage version, the current is still quite ok (apart from these penetrating synthetic flower chords). Finally, it was enough to put me back 30 years....
Nevertheless, I can now with direct comparison no longer give an assessment, because in my opinion it is no longer the same fragrance...

Long speech, short sense: Current version quite ok to revel in nostalgic times.... but more also not... Too bad about this once magical masterpiece!

UPDATE 08.11.21: Could now still test a Cotyversion of 2019 and 2012!

Version 2012: the fragrance is still very reminiscent of the Lancaster version, although the shelf life has already been reduced by quite a bit.

Version 2019: The fruity component and the cherry are still present, however, freshly applied you have the feeling it would be the vintage version after 5-6 hours... the floral accords are brought more to the fore here.... The magic of the former original is still guessable.... The durability and sillage were again reduced by some...

Version 2020: The shock variant!!! Cherry so to speak no longer present, only a pungent synthetic lily of the valley scent.... Sillage and durability... about the same as 2019...is probably due to the Lyral ban that this version seems so horribly unbalanced.... maybe the version of 2021 is a little better tuned?

Thank you, YSL!
Never would I still have expected that it would happen....
I've been through almost all of the flankers in the La Nuit series, except for the Frozen Cologne, which I couldn't get my hands on at a normal price. Each of these Flanker liked me, however, the comparison to the original was always in the foreground or sometimes in the background... and each time I felt a little disappointment...
The original smells indeed mach his brutal reformulation still very good, but somehow it did not grab me so anymore, the magic was no longer there, and I wondered from year to year, why I could not satirize myself on this perfume.
When I heard that the 2020 batches were a lot better again, I went for it once more... the performance really did get a bit better in my eyes, but again, the magic wasn't there like it once was... or maybe my sense of smell has just changed?
And then came YOU....
YSL, La Nuit de l'homme Bleu Électrique
When I heard that Duendlich was going right back to basics, I couldn't help but buy you blind
The First Sprayer.... Puffff.... Back in 2012! It's you! UNKNOWN!
The spiciness, YOUR magic, is back. I catch myself smelling it almost every minute.
For the first 2-3 hours, you're not imitating the retro original, no, you just are.
And then suddenly... am I smelling the dry, almost plummy iris from the Intense perfume, which was discontinued in 2019? It's not in the pyramid, but I mean to come into contact with the 'old' Intense note, which keeps reuniting with the original and detaching itself from it for a few minutes....I can't draw a comparison to Frozen Cologne, as I've never been able to test it myself, but I don't give a damn now after this gem...
When I wake up in the morning (about 12h after application), I smell again on my arm, and can still perceive the full base of the woods well, but no trace of the tonka bean of the original...
The durability, I find compared to the original terrific. The fragrance does not say goodbye after 2-3 hours completely. Also the sillage is a lot better (probably also by the spiciness finally used again) than you know it from the original... I would almost want to claim, it is back on the level of the 2012/2013 version (the first vintage version I unfortunately never owned, so I can not judge).
I am positively surprised and somewhat overwhelmed that YSL has finally decided or noticed that the original should not be neutered.
But why again a new Flanker, and then also in blue?
Yes, I know, because of the fashion, but with blue I would honestly not associate this fragrance!?
Had to get a new flanker, because the original through the years and reformulations has gotten a worse and worse reputation (rightly or unjustly be indeterminate)? I suspect yes, to advertise it then additionally as Intense... whether that will work and it will be a new Reisser of the series?
I'm not sure, I'm just more than grateful that I was allowed to fall in love with the fragrance again and feel 10 years younger again... Thanks for that, YSL!

EdP (Badge 2019 Tester) vs. EdT (Badge 2011)
Again and again, a diminishing remnant of La Nuit de l'Homme EdT smiles at me in my bathroom. I still love this fragrance dearly, but have heard time and time again that this has been reformulated to death, so I have not yet been able to bring myself to order another bottle. The fear of disappointment seems to be too great, as the 2011 version is simply a dream for me.

Now I've heard that the new EdP is supposed to be most reminiscent of the old days, and when I could get hold of it by chance on the Internet at the promotional price, I just had to strike.

Hardly get, I just had to test it immediately on me, and what can I say? I am a little disappointed... not that the fragrance does not have its charm, with the original he has in my Me8nung but very little to do.

The prelude I find bombastic, could hardly smell me full of it. The play of fruitiness and warm spices, I also note a fine Pudrigkeit, I find very harmonious and attractive. A subtle freshness is also perceptible in the top note. After a few minutes I have the feeling to smell out light coconut, somehow it reminds me of Pina Colada. Would the scent progression from the first half hour - hour these chords maintain, I would celebrate the perfume properly.

However, the minutes fly by and so does the top note. And the only association, which at least in the beginning reminds of the original, even if far less cardamom and more sweetness is used, fizzles out.
Instead, the further course of this EdP goes, in my opinion, more in the direction of 1 Million or Joop Homme Wild, even if not as penetrating and synthetic. A lot more subtle in the sillage than the aforementioned Million, so you are not immediately crushed by the smell. Perhaps also a little more adult and linear...

After about 3 hours, I perceive the perfume only skin deep, and wonder what the smell reminds me of: the typical musk scent, which is usually either hated or loved...

I don't know how to judge the EdP yet. The first hour I had a real wow effect, even if my nose immediately told me; this has not even 50% to do with the original (at least, as I know it from the 2011 version)!
I had to keep smelling myself and thought to myself; this could be a real magnet. After that, unfortunately, the disillusionment; the further course is too boring for me and reminds me too much of 1 Million. The wow effect fizzles with me abruptly and I think to myself that this will not tend to my favorites....

The next morning after showering yet again a few sprays.... Shit, smells good! WOW!.... at least the first hour...

Do I think the scent is bad? No!
Does it resemble the original EdT? Definitely NO! Not even to 50%, because the cardamom is already used a lot more discreetly. It reminds me more of 1 Million in delicate and a little more adult.
Am I disappointed? A bit. If you leave out the comparison and would you see this as a stand-alone perfume, it would be no Reisser, it would, however, in my opinion, a lot better than now.
Can I recommend this perfume? If you can break away from the original, and is on oriental fragrances, I can recommend it to you.

Am curious how the relationship will develop in the next few weeks between the EdP and me.... Will create an addendum here at a later date, whether and how my opinion has changed or not.
