How a little gold bar that recieves so much hate managed to surprise me.

At the start of the year, i finally bought the OG 1 Million after going in reverse order of buying 1 Million Lucky and Elixir first. Compared to those, i really didn't think that much of it on its own until a few weeks later when i bought the Parfum and tried layering it together with the OG and ended up really enjoying that combination more so than i did each on their own. For the rest of the year, after a few more designer purchases (just a few lol) and some posts asking for recommendations of what to buy next, i was told i should start buying niche as i had reached a stage where things would end up smelling very similar to one another if i kept buying designers. They were not wrong though just to note.

This photo was roughly where i was prior to being given that advice.

After this i went on my way to buying from indie and niche houses and even though i enjoyed the display of my little gold and silver bar collection of the 1 Million line, i rarely ever wore them, well except for Lucky which i like a lot, and Elixir now and again too, that was until today. I was looking at my collection trying to decide what to wear after taking a recent month long break to reset any nose blind issues i had. That worked an absolute treat by the way! My ability to smell all notes is at its best since i started collecting last year and after getting the horrible virus that us collectors fear the most,  and wearing fragrance every day didn't hep either. But as i sat with this renewed ability to smell any fragrance like it was the first time i was smelling it again, lo and behold my row of 1 Million and its flankers caught my eye and i thought, why not?

In all honesty, i thought i was going to have a so so response to it but was pleasantly surprised. At first i got this strong leather smell as the cinnamon slowly started to creep in and eventually there it was, that smell everyone calls the bubblegum scent. You know what? After spending hundreds on all my niche and indie fragrances? I am enjoying this a lot more than i expected. In fact, i am enjoyed it more now than when i first bought it prior to owning or sampling any Xerjoff or Parfum De Marly fragrances. Am i saying 1 Million is on level with them? No, of course not, but i am saying that even with having now experienced them, i am actually enjoying 1 Million more so than prior to knowing what a niche fragrance even smelled like.
There are some fragrances that i have gone back to after widening my ability to detect and separate different and new notes that i used to thoroughly enjoy and didn't quite appreciate them as i once did, which was what i expected to happen here when i sprayed 1 Million for the first time in who knows how long, but instead with 1 Million i had the complete opposite reaction.

So, in retrospect, this little gold bar that often draws a lot of hate ended up being one of the outliers that was more pleasant to me when i went back to it even after trying after all the highly rated Parfum De Marlys, Xerjoffs and other high end fragrances than prior to them. So, if you have something in your collection that you think you wouldn't enjoy today after buying and sampling lots of fragrances that cost a fortune, go and try those fragrances that you bought at the start of your collection again. One of them may just give you a nice little surprise, and as long as you enjoy it, that is all that matters. Unless you are going on a date of course, lol.

Happy spraying, Mitch 😊
