Break No.3

This is more a personal thing i do every so often that i have wrote a blog about in the past where i would update the blog daily with the changes i would notice while taking a break from fragrances. It would be things such as my sense of smell of natural things around me would intensify, taste of my food would increase and other things. I like to take a break every so often when i start to notice that some of my favourite fragrances don't smell as great as they used to, because wearing fragrances every day will cause you to go nose blind even if you rotate the kind of fragrances you wear.

I have a few fragrances that i know exactly how they should smell with the likes of CK ONE as it was one of my first fragrances that hasn't changed over the years like my actual first bought fragrance, Versace's Blue Jeans which has changed. Then there are some recently bought fragrances that i know how they smelled when i first got them and don't smell as i remember they smelled since I have not had a break in 5 months. There is also part of me not feeling the same joy i did when i first wore them.

Speaking of joy, that is another reason i take a break. I have a decent collection with a good variation of scent profiles, but I still can get bored of them after a while so, taking a break for a while gives you that joy again. A little thing i do is spray a scent in to its box and after a few days of the break, i will smell the box to test my level of nose blindness and whether the smell excites me again. I remember on my first break when i done this after a few days of smelling Eros in its box was an amazing experience compared to how i felt just prior to taking a rest from wearing anything or spraying anything in to the air.

Another reason i think it is important people take a break is so that they can give a true representation of how a fragrance performs when talking about it with others whether you are giving a recommendation or writing a full review. I have been trying to ease myself in to a certain Xerjoff fragrance you will see in a photo at the bottom of the screen (it is not at the bottom after some new edits, adding some updates so I will just say here it is Xerjoff Alexandria II) which i usually can smell well in to the following day, and is usually the part i enjoy the most once the 2 very strong Oud notes have subsided, but the last time i wore it i couldn't even smell the oud after a few hours and then i couldn't smell the other notes the following day at all either. When you see which fragrance it was you will understand why we need breaks if we are going nose blind to strong fragrances like it in such a short time after spraying.

So, with Christmas and my birthday coming up soon i will more than likely be buying some new fragrances and discovery kits and now that i mainly buy niche fragrances which as we know cost more, i want to be able to try them out properly first before buying a full bottle from the likes of Xerjoff. A fragrance i love to wear for Christmas is Spicebomb Infrared EDT, it just screams Christmas and after wearing it the other day i realised it did not smell of Christmas to me at all because i was not picking up numerous notes that give it that Christmas berry smell that we often get when we walk down the quick gift and decoration isles at shopping centres as we prepare for my favourite day of the year. I knew a break was needed right then but i had a lot of outgoing plans coming up and put it off until they were over with as I like to smell nice when I am out and about. However, by then i was definitely noticing the blindness more and more even with rotations. So the day has come, and it actually started yesterday for me to take a break. The last few breaks have been like 5-8 days long. This time i want to go longer. Maybe a month with maybe a wear here or there if i have to go out to a special occasion of which there is only one planned in the next month, so that wont ruin my plans of hopefully coming back to scents of the day posts and being able to smell them like I did the first time I wore them again.

EDIT 1: It is day 5 Sunday 29th of October, and I am actually feeling cravings of the wanting of wearing a fragrance, or at least smelling it in a box or something. It has been something like 1 Million Lucky1 Million Lucky , Van Py RhumVan Py Rhum or Hard Candy (2023)Hard Candy (2023) that are really rattling around my head this morning. All three are quite sweet and my favourite kind of fragrances along with blue types of fragrances but I am not craving anything blue at all.

I am not going to give in at all, as much as Lorenzo’s VanPyRhum wants to bite in to my neck and feed on me especially with it being Halloween in a couple of days I will stay strong lol

EDIT 2: Oh no! I came to look at how long it has been with no fragrance thinking it was at least two weeks but it’s only 11 days. Mind you I did start the day prior to writing this blog so 12 days. Still another 2+ weeks.

EDIT:3 Day 13 and I was cleaning one of the work tops half of my fragrances are on including some samples which have lids for them and one of them had came off so when I pushed it back on I just smelled this instant wow of fragrance come my way. It was Aaron Terence Hughes Slut Elixir and I remember how it smelled prior to the break and omg what a difference. If it’s like this at day 13 I can’t wait for the month to be over. Now I must go wash my hands 😢
