Poll: Is Wearing Perfume at the Gym Appropriate?

Poll: Is Wearing Perfume at the Gym Appropriate?

The gym is all about exercise, sweat, and staying focused on your workout. However, some people wear perfume to feel fresh and confident. But how do others at the gym feel about it?

Do you think it’s okay to wear perfume while working out, or do you find it distracting in that environment? Is a subtle scent acceptable, or should the gym be a fragrance-free zone? Share your thoughts with us!

Honestly, I think the gym is best without perfume. Exercise already involves a lot of breathing, sweating, and physical exertion, so strong scents can quickly feel overpowering. A subtle deodorant is one thing, but wearing actual perfume or cologne feels out of place in that environment. When I’m working out, I’d prefer the air to be as neutral as possible so I can focus on the workout without any extra distractions.
There’s also the fact that everyone’s idea of a “nice scent” is different. What might smell fresh to one person could feel too intense for another, especially in a confined space where people are breathing heavily. So, I’d vote for a fragrance-free gym as a courtesy to everyone else who’s just there to focus on fitness.

As long at it's not a strong oud or an Iso E super bomb, it's ok. A fresh and clean scent would be perfect.

I believe that fragrances worn in places like the gym should have a subtle and intimate sillage, something that enhances personal hygiene without overwhelming others. Ideally, these scents should be light, fresh, and uncomplicated—think easygoing options with aromatic notes, white musk, and citrus. Such fragrances not only feel clean but are also less likely to intrude on the space of those around you.
At the gym where I work out, there’s a guy who regularly wears a very strong oud fragrance, and honestly, it can be quite overwhelming and distracting. Fragrances like that are rich, complex, and best suited for other settings, as they tend to linger in the air and affect everyone nearby. In a shared space like a gym, it's important to be mindful of how our choices impact others, especially when it comes to something as personal as scent.

Gym workouts sponsored by Rexona & a couple of Mont Blanc sprays, never got any complaints:) Beats the smell of sweat any time, any day!

Yes I definetely do. It has to be something light and inexpensive. I usually go for fresh, citrusy and musky scents. Like AppelJuice by Zara, D&G Light Blue Intense or recently I have been using Mystique Bouquete by Afna. 2-3 is enough for the gym for me.

The consensus is gonna be "yes, but something light" and that's where I land too. Your usual blues, your citruses.

I wear a fragrance to the gym, but I do not specifically wear a fragrance for the gym.

Wearing 3 sprays of a fresh and light fragrance like Nautica Voyage wouldn't hurt anyone, it's perfect and as your body heats up it's going to really push so no need to overspray
Please don't wear heavy stuff like Erba Pura, BR540, Angel/A*Men because while they smell good, they are distracting and annoying 😬

Please do not, ever, under any circumstances, for any reason, at any time, wear any fragrance to any gym anywhere. Thank you for coming to my TEDtalk.

No problem with wearing a scent to the gym or with others that do. Pretty difficult to overpower the scent of the rubber flooring and sweaty guy funk anyway. hahaha

Erring on the side of "no." Just wear a nice, subtle-smelling deodorant if you want to still smell nice while you work out. Lighter, fresher fragrances should also be fine.

Neutral fragrances, fresh and clean fragrances absolutely, yes. Something like Molecule01, Molecule02.
Just please dont wear fragrances like Baccarat Rouge540, Erba Pura and its clones. Too loud, too rude.
