“The Nightmare”
Oh boy, how do I even review this fragrance. A couple weeks ago I purchased a 3ML decant that I’ve been wearing in my spare time to really get an idea of what is fragrance is about.

The opening: it’s pretty repulsive to my nose. Imagine some blu cheese that has been sitting in a horse barn in the high heat and sunlight for days and days rotting and fermenting, that is what the first 15-20 minutes smells like. For the price, i really wish some higher quality oud was used.

After 30-45 mins the fragrance turns into something quite nice. The barnyard, “cheese” qualities subside for the most part and the rose and saffron finally have a chance to show their faces. From this stage, until the dry down, it’s very nice and undoubtably middle-eastern.

Where could you wear this? Short answer: nowhere around the general public. Long answer? In very contained environments with other perfume connoisseurs who may appreciate what this fragrance can offer. I promise you, if you wear this out in public right after you spray, people will be repulsed, and you’ll get some of the dirtiest looks in your life. I could see this being OK to wear out after about an hour.

In no way, shape or form is this worth over $1000 for 50 ml. If you’re really interested to see how this fragrance smells, buy yourself a little decant to test it, because realistically, that’s all you will need and will ever use.

Scent: 6.5/10. If the opening wasn’t so overwhelmingly repulsive, I’d give it an 8-8.5. The drydown is addictive and stunning if you can get past the opening.

Longevity: 10/10. Easily lasts 10-12 hours on skin and days/weeks on clothes.

Projection: 9/10. It’s very strong the first 2-3 hours then it sits within a couple feet for another 6-7 hours.

Versatility: 4/10. This is unwearable for me in most scenarios.

Beautiful, Intriguing, hilariously over-priced
I bought a little 3ml sample that I’ve been wearing around to get my thoughts.

It’s a bit of a hard scent to wrap my head around because I’ve never smelled anything like it. It’s quality is apparent the moment you catch a wiff, the material’s chosen are of the highest quality and the blending is superb.

The scent, to summarize it, is very mossy, spicy, slightly sweet, salty, slightly floral and very old school. This is not for a man under the age of for 40-45…it does not smell youthful or playful in the slightest bit. This is for someone successful, sophisticated, well put together and confident. This definitely isn’t for women either, it’s too masculine.

It’s a beautiful scent, i enjoy wearing it, but i feel as though it’s wearing me…I don’t feel “comfortable” smelling like this in public. I’m only 28 and I’m not doing the fragrance any justice. The longevity is nearly eternal but somehow doesn’t overwhelm which is interesting. The sillage and projection is always kept in check. No one i asked said it smelled good, everyone said it smelled “weird” or like an “old man” or like “an old lady”.

Is it worth $3500 usd for a bottle? No…but if you have a lot of money to burn, why the hell not. This is THE endgame fragrance, there is nothing more opulent or outrageous out there.

People ACTUALLY like this?
This is hands-down, the most obnoxious, unwearable fragrance I’ve ever smelled. It’s so sour, aggressive and pungent it gave me a headache almost immediately upon smelling it. The sharpness feels like it’s drilling my brain and sinuses and the sillage is so overwhelming. I can’t imagine any scenario where wearing this would be deemed even remotely appropriate. This really needed to be softened a lot. I feel like i have a pretty high tolerance for challenging fragrances, but this is too much.

There are parts of it that i like, but 90% of it is completely unpalatable and ludicrous. This is strictly a collectors item, in my opinion.

Am i missing something?
A kind gentleman at bergdorff in nyc was kind enough to make me a 2ml sample of amber aoud to take home with me. I was beyond excited to try it out and see what all the fuss was about and what an $800 bottle of fragrance smells like

Powdery rose bomb with some ambergris and benzoins, thats all i get. No oud, no woodiness, no animalic notes….just rose, rose and more rose.

Don’t get me wrong, it smells nice, but having “oud” in the name is so misleading, if there is any in here, it’s at such low trace amounts it’s undetectable to my nose. Also, very feminine leaning in my opinion.

If you want a REAL rose oud fragrance for men, just get ombre nomade, its half the price and double fragrance this could ever hope to be.

I don’t really like it
I’ve actually grown to hate this the more i wore it. At first sray i loved it, it was unlike anything i had smelled before, i was convinced i found a new 10/10 fragrance. HOWEVER, the initial “awe” faded after the first couple wearings and i was left with something that gave me a bad headache and became irritating to smell for 12+ hours (this stuff lasts forever, literally. It gets stronger and stronger the more it sits on your skin)

The more i wore it, the more it smelled very sterile and almost like a hospital. The intense metalic and suede notes became almost suffocating. I ended up selling my bottle last week.
