Surprised!
I got my bottle on New Year’s Day 2014 when Dillards had their half price off of gift sets. Up until last week, it had been sitting in the back of my cabinet when someone asked if I wanted to trade something for Virgin Island Water. I told him that I had something fairly close and sprayed myself with it just to make sure it was still good. It smelled just as good as the day I got it, the top notes are a little off for the first few seconds, but the rest is just fine and it seemed to last a long time. So much so that as I was doing laundry, the next day, the scent coming off of my shirt was strong and amazing.
I don’t know if it’s because my bottle is so old that it is performing so well, but I am extremely happy to use this as my dumb reach for the summer. I see that it’s still extremely cheap, but I do see a lot of bad ratings for longevity here, so it may not perform as well as it used to.
I never thought that I would love an English laundry fragrance, but this one is pretty close.

From buyers remorse to absolute love!
I got this a few years ago for a very good price. The main selling point was the price and I thought it smelled OK. I kind of forgot about it for a while and when I sprayed it again, I was very intrigued and during my first real wearing of it, I absolutely fell in love.
Many people whom I’ve shared this fragrance with also have fallen in love with it. It is a very sophisticated, smoky, crisp, sweet fragrance, which will appeal to those of us who love the powerhouse fragrances of the 70s and 80s.
This is a classy fragrance, but for someone who, when forced to wear a tuxedo, would wear it with cowboy boots and would choose whiskey straight up over champagne any day.
i’m not sure exactly what happened with the company, but I remember the 3.4oz/100mL bottle was originally priced at $110. Now it seems a 1.7oz/50 mL bottle is over $150 on what seems to be a website for the perfumer alone.
If you owned this fragrance from its original iteration, consider yourself lucky. As another reviewer has said, this is a tragically unknown masterpiece.

Nice frag. But, was the first release pre covid?
I am almost certain I got this when it was first released and I'm thinking it was around 2018. I know it was re-released in 2022 with what seems to be identical packaging. I specifically remember thinking I should sell my bottle when it started becoming scarce, but then it was back on the website. If anyone knows the correct timetable, please let me know!
I'm kinda glad I didn't sell it now, because it has become a great everyday scent, a "dumb reach" if you will. I am not into "blue" fragrances at all since I can't stand the overabundance of Ambroxides and pink pepper, and even though this fragrance contains a good dose of both, it has enough supporting notes to make it interesting and allows it to stand alone.
What I get from this is a crisp, effervescent fragrance with a very nice spicy and woody background which makes it a great choice to wear for work or during the day.
I think this might be a great fragrance to rescue some of the younger crown who are stuck in the mire of the "blue" fragrance scourge and act as a stepping stone to more nonconformist fragrances.

The best smelling dirty ashtray
I've had this bottle since it came out but hadn't worn it in years. I remember liking it when it was released, but for some reason, it was never part of my rotation. I wore it to bed the other night and it was wonderful. I was worried it might show signs of turning, but I think since the bottle is opaque, it is preserved well. When I first smelled this I was working the fragrance counter at a major retailer; I think I was the only one who liked it lol. When I wore it the other night, I was reminded of the same scent image I had 10 years ago: a great-smelling dirty ashtray. I know some may turn their nose at this description, but I love deep, dark, bold fragrances and the description fits. It's nice to remember that JV actually made good fragrances at one time. Sadly, this one, like almost all JV frags, is not the best performer. Having said that, I was surprised that I kept getting wafts of this throughout the night, but it was basically gone by the time I woke up. There are strong similarities between this and 10 ans, so if you are able to get a hold of either fragrance and love bold scents, jump at the chance!
A lovely, classic and classy amber
Grand, powerful opening that is not too much for anyone who loves bold, classic fragrances. The initial blast calms down very quickly and what remains is a very smooth and well-blended combination of the notes. After a few minutes, I find myself wanting to sniff it more and more. Reading the notes, I thought this might be a simple take on single malt by Killian, but this fragrance stands on its own with the resinous and woody facets taking the main stage while the background notes make this a very exemplary fragrance. The fragrance remains classy in its performance as well; nothing about this will be too harsh or bombastic, but it remains present and inviting for hours.
