I hope it will get better
“I hope it will get better” - that’s what I said today while applying the fragrance on myself. Don’t get me wrong, I am not crazy rich enough to just blind buy a whole 100 ml Amouage bottle. But let me get to that in a bit.
I honestly am not a huge fan of Amouage fragrances: having tried a lot of them I think only few of them would end in my collection at some point of time. I still have go try them all, especially female ones (some are true gems I’ve heard) and I am not being judgmental at all - just not my cup of tea.
I’ve decided to get this one when I was in a duty free shop and tried it on my skin. The tester that I’ve tried there was definitely more galbanum and ivy-heavy compared to what I have. Mine has a lot more mint in it which is very unfortunate - I really liked the tester’s version better.
The fragrance to my nose opens up with a dominant minty note that lasts throughout all stages of scent development, if I can call it development at all, due to my nose picking up mostly mint and nothing more. I hope my version will oxidize and lose a bit of that minty scent. Did you have a similar experience with this one?

Very nice cheapie
Today I’ve decided to look for something I haven’t used in a while that would fit the current weather (+18 Celsius) and I noticed that little guy I had blind bought in a discounter. It was something under 30€ at that time.
Now, I want to step back a little bit and talk about cheap frags. I actually try not to be a snobby snob who thinks a good fragrance should cost at least xyz amount of money. There are plenty of beautiful scents that are affordable and there are plenty of expensive scents I find too synthetic and unpleasant. When getting a new fragrance I always try to operate within the “It smells good for its price and I am willing to pay it or not” category.
This cheapie gets usually overlooked as people have heard more about Dunhill Icon than Century. Century is a beautiful (considering the price) fragrance that has lots of Cypriol that I absolutely like. Together with that, I can feel some creamy sandalwood and neroli. All that creates a refreshing feeling especially when you’re out and a bit of wind is blowing in your face.
Of course it’s not a work of art but it’s a dumb reach if you don’t know what to wear and don’t want to think a lot about it. Moreover, I haven’t seen anything that smells like that, especially in this price category. Pleasantly surprised with the scent!

Italian Church
Lorenzo Villoresi is a niche brand that I don’t fully understand. Having tried all of them I literally disliked them for how they smell. Except for this little beauty Incensi. Love at first sight.
Incensi smells incredibly churchy despite the mix of green notes, galbanum, citruses and…apple? I smell incense right away, very balsamic incense. I swear it smells like one of the catholic churches I visited.
The green, cool and somewhat balsamic incense turns over time into something warmer, still with a lot of incense.
I would choose this incense composition over a lot of other incense-dominated frags like CDG Incense line, Montale Full Incense or Cardinal by James Heeley. Interesting combination that leads to the life-like church smell. It’s a pity that I didn’t like anything else done by Lorenzo.

Blackcurrant Dichotomy
Cat piss or masterpiece - that’s what I’ve heard and read about this Byredo’s creation. I wouldn’t dive deep into the brand as everyone on this sub should know it. I will just say that to me it’s a somewhat “commercialized” niche (like PDM or Roja) that focuses more on sales and less on the art component compared to an average (not in terms of quality) niche brand. But that’s fine, I really don’t mind it, they shouldn’t be there to please me or anything.
This one might evoke some mixed emotions in some people as I repeatedly heard people labeling it as cat’s piss. That’s the good old blackcurrant performing :)
To me, there’s nothing urin-y in the scent. It opens up with a sharp and sweet blackcurrant note, then gradually transforms into a black tea infused with birch tree smoke. The sweetness doesn’t fade away entirely, just gets more quiet.
This is the only scent from Byredo that I’ve truly enjoyed and wanted to own. Interesting and quite unusual combo of notes, well-crafted too. Reminds me of spring and early summer in the place I grew up :)

The Weird Green
This is probably one of the weirdest perfumes Olfactive Studio has created so far and one of the weirdest “green” scents I’ve ever tried.
This is also only one perfume I know that has a WASABI note in it.
The start is very pungent and…spicy. I can smell green wasabi paste and some spicy peppers (not sure if it’s jalapeños or something else). I don’t get green grassy smell, rather something I would smell in a spicy salad bowl.
It continues to evolve into something more «strong» woody and less greeny. I can’t really describe the smell, nor can I say that I smell anything from the base notes. It still stays predominantly green, maybe less pungent and wasabi-heavy. Someone commented on Fragrantica that they get some wet concrete here but that’s not what I feel here. Someone said it has mate vibes but being a mate drinker myself I certainly don’t get mate vibes. Essentially, I don’t get anything people on Fragrantica associated it with. To me it’s an abstract green smell, very unique. It’s an art object rather than a wearable fragrance. Bought it only because I knew a shop owner well enough to occasionally buy cheap testers. This one I believe was never sold after standing on a shop shelf for quite some time and I think I know why…
Surely wearable for someone, this will probably remain the least worn fragrance in my collection. At least I will never need to search for a refill (will also be hard to find the exact bottle as they’ve changed their bottle designs)
