Do you ever miss being sick?
Sometimes, when I was a kid, having a cold felt kind of cozy. Sure, having a runny nose and a cough sucks, but it had its perks. Not having to go to school and having your mom pamper you, maybe watching more TV than usually and getting some magazines... It wasn't all bad, but it's not something I'm really nostalgic for either. As an adult with responsibilities, being sick is even worse.

Why do I tell you all this? Because Mixed Emotions kind of smells like being sick!
Not in the gross "sickly human sweat" way, but like things you might have next to you when you have a cold: Blackcurrant flavored throat lozenges, vaporub and a nice cup of hot black tea. I don't know where it's coming from, but something in here really makes me think of eukalyptus, which I'm not a fan of.
Besides the medical notes, the violet is quite strong and adds a bit of a magical forest vibe.
All in all this fragrance is sweet and lush, and does a nice job replicating the texture of tea, but it's too camphorous for me to really enjoy. Interesting in a way, but not what I'd ever want to smell like.

off-putting.... or not?
Not sure about this one. I have official sample now and it's wonky. Opening is more raspberries than blackcurrant to me. Tea is there and a lot. Also some dark tar vibe. Like hot asphalt almost. Very odd release. Yet here we are, I still I want to sniff it a bit more. Very unexpected and name fits the bill perfectly.

Blackcurrant Dichotomy
Cat piss or masterpiece - that’s what I’ve heard and read about this Byredo’s creation. I wouldn’t dive deep into the brand as everyone on this sub should know it. I will just say that to me it’s a somewhat “commercialized” niche (like PDM or Roja) that focuses more on sales and less on the art component compared to an average (not in terms of quality) niche brand. But that’s fine, I really don’t mind it, they shouldn’t be there to please me or anything.

This one might evoke some mixed emotions in some people as I repeatedly heard people labeling it as cat’s piss. That’s the good old blackcurrant performing :)

To me, there’s nothing urin-y in the scent. It opens up with a sharp and sweet blackcurrant note, then gradually transforms into a black tea infused with birch tree smoke. The sweetness doesn’t fade away entirely, just gets more quiet.

This is the only scent from Byredo that I’ve truly enjoyed and wanted to own. Interesting and quite unusual combo of notes, well-crafted too. Reminds me of spring and early summer in the place I grew up :)

Blackcurrent Vick's Lozenge
A blackcurrant-flavoured Vicks throat lozenge, complete with that wintergreen edge that probably doesn’t even have a therapeutic effect but never fails to remind you that you’re under the weather and ingesting this out of necessity, not choice. Underneath the clear, hard candy gloss of this topnote lurks a cat piss note so sharp and winey you are right back in those abandoned lots at the corners of your estate where the weeds and stray cats have colonized every inch of the floor space.

Later, much later, and some might say, too late, a pleasant Ombre Leather-like suede accord comes in – no tea, mind, just the plainest of all glove box suede and new mid-range car upholstery.  The catpissy blackcurrant note lingers like a feeling of malaise, developing an unpleasantly BO-ish nuance that only adds to my distress.  Though unhappy to have ceded so much skin space to this horrid perfume during a lunch break, I am happy to have smelled it, as it had been occupying quite a large part of my imagination for some time.

Great transition scent
I was looking for a transition scent for winter to spring as The Noir 29 is my go-to for fall and winter. The London Byredo store clerk was amazing as I came in and said, I like Biblitheque but find it too sweet. Mixed Emotions was the first suggestion and it was spot on what I was looking for.
The top note is sweet but not cloying and the mate pulls it down so well.
Really wearable on my skin as well as scarves and cardigans.
The other two scents recommended, Eleventh Hour and Mumbai Noise, were close in different ways to what I was looking for (Eleventh Hour was too smokey, Mumbai Noise was too spicy) but I think the fruity quality of Mixed Emotions made it an immediate purchase.

Smells like standing near a big pile of burning tires, and trying to drink tea while leaning onto a birch. All the smoke comes your way.

Stunning blackcurrant top with a warm black tea note and a light but present woodiness at the base. Unreal. Delightful. Superb.

A compelling fruit scent. The blackcurrant here is tangy, the tea adds sharpness to it, but not like a citrus, more dry tannins. IKEA jam

As others have said, this scent is very mixed emotions. Couldn’t place the notes, wasn’t sure but then the dry down is scrumptious

Drydown is very nice but the opening blackcurrant syrupy sweetness combined with the smoke gives off a distinct hickory bbq sauce feel.

I feel blackcurrant, then smoke, then mint, all combined smell great! A bit sweet, a bit minty.

Strong blackcurrants, sour and sweet at the same time. Accompanied by smoky tea notes. It smells pleasant and unpleasant at the same time.

Interesting scent but unfortunately the opening is unpleasantly salty & sour on me. Feels like smoky liquid lorenzo. Very intriguing

contradiction in a bottle. Mate mixed with tar makes very strange combination. Not an easy wear. It's like you are about to get a headache
