allergic skin reaction to pineward & known allergens

allergic skin reaction to pineward & known allergens 1

I tried my first Pineward perfume, Boreal, one Wednesday morning , and woke up on Thursday morning with a rash (small itchy dots) that has now grown in affected area across my forearm. Being naive, I thought I would try two more on the other arm to check if it was just one perfume from that brand. Unfortunately, now I have rashes on both arms.

So I was wondering, has anyone else here had a reaction to  multiple Pineward perfumes? I wrote to their support email to ask for the ingredients list but Also doubt they would send me something so classified.

I have known allergies to some tree nuts and some types of pollen, but I was surprised that I got a rash from this. someone online write that pineward uses a lot of natural ingredients, though, so it's possible that a chemical from a tree I am allergic to was used...

Looking for any opinions or ideas on understanding my adverse skin reaction!

s.i am relatively new to knowing how to write perfume statements. is it fine that I wrote that I got a reaction from this in my statement?

Hello,

First, sorry for your allergy, hope you'll get better soon.

Every cosmetic product sold in Europe has to list the ingredients, it's an obligation.  Even if the companies are outside of Europe, they have to provide the list (Regulation UE 1223/2009)

And for me, it's perfectly fine to write about about your skin reaction in your statement. It would be a kind warning for everyone with sensitive skin.

Thank you for the wishes!

I didn't know about that regulation. Unfortunately, I bought it in the US, not Germany, but I hope to hear back from the support team soon.

And thanks for the information about my statement. I hadn't expected that I would get an allergy when I wrote the statement, and then I had to edit it to include that information. But now I am thinking I would like to include more details, like how long it lasts and the severity of the rash etc. Do you think it is fine to delete a statement and rewrite it as a review..?

Sure you can !

I always prefer to read a review (and I bet I am not the only one here), it's more complete.

I also checked their website, and as they sell internationally, they can provide the info you want.

Okay! I think I will do that. Thank you for the info :')

that problem tends to be more common with houses using natural ingredients, and especially if you spray on sensitive skin / skin exposed to sun (neck, hands etc.)

i usually avoid those areas in general with any perfume, but with naturals im extra cautious and spray on hair and shirt only Smile

(also, ive imported some prin perfumes directly from him (as a private person, not a business) and was given import paperwork with listed allergens, so i dont see a reason pineward wouldnt supply you with that information)

it is important to make a patch test, even with natural perfumes.. I had multiple skin reactions after testing natural aromatics and my own perfumes, but that doesn't make them bad, a patch test is a must if your skin is sensitive. I apply Weleda cream for babies, it soothes skin. Hope this helps!

that makes sense. I had bought the tester set, so the process of trying all of them is in a way the best "patch test" I can do, since I don't have the full list of ingredients used.

To add onto this, I did ask for the list of ingredients for a few or all of the perfumes, but the maker did not respond after I requested that. So I just assumed it is semi-classified information.

Hi,

No response from Pineward?

sorry, missed the last response somehow- but that's correct, I never received a response after asking for a more thorough  list of ingredients.

Good evening @Plantradish, I became curious, didn't know the brand, but here is what I read on their 'About Us'- page:

The perfumes of Pineward are crafted largely using heavily concentrated absolutes and should be tested on small patches of skin before further application, or alternatively they may be worn on dark-colored garments. The perfumes are alcohol-based (using 200 proof grain alcohol), containing a mixed medium of natural materials and aromachemical components for support and stability. Steading is a non-vegan blend as it contains beeswax absolute and beaver castor, Velvetine also contains shore-gathered ambergris.

And also: Pineward perfumes are not IFRA compliant.

(I know many people detest IFRA rules, but those do at least try to protect us from allergies and so on...).

Exactly.  And I am also glad that UE has some restrictive rules.

That's not perfume related (or maybe sort of), but I once visited an artisanal cheese factory. The owner spent his time complaining about UE rules. The workshop was very clean. But after the visit, he invited us over to his farm for a drink... Errk, it was dirty and disguisting, so imagine without UE rules. Then I remembered that my dad told me that before all these UE rules, back in the 50's, he often read in the newspapers about people dying from eating cheese (the deadly Camembert). It happened almost every week.

But back to Pineward, as they have resellers in the UE (Spain and Poland), they have no other choice than providing the list of potential allergens.

That is an awful story about that cheese !!! And for Pineword: I also think they should provide that list. Hope they will. But what I read about their ingredients, especially the non vegan ones....made me kind of...well...you know...suspicious to say the least...They also say they won't take returns...

That's really odd that you haven't heard back from Pineward with ingredient lists, since I know Pineward sells stuff in the EU too. A Pineward bottle I bought in the EU came with the typical ingredient list (which doesn't go into detail about the specific naturals used, but does specify the EU mandated allergens).

The perfumer has been very responsive to my emails, but I know it's a one-man operation, so it might be worth reaching out again to him. I am guessing it's your sap allergy reacting. If you purchased drams and want to resell or swap them, let me know (I hope it is alright for me to comment this). I'm sorry they didn't work out for you!

@TheEn I guess the reason I didn't received the full list of ingredients is since I bought the sample set. In the end, I will just accept the risk of the allergy, and will resell the ones I react strongly to.
@Averylww Yes, I also figured based on the various information I could piece together that it is a lot of work to manage an operation when you are a smaller team, so I didn't want to bug him too much..  I will definitely list some of the samples which I had purchased soon, so I can let you know when I do Smile (also not sure if it's fine for me to comment this- still fairly new here)
