Guerlain - Lui and Œillet Pourpre

Guerlain - Lui and Œillet Pourpre 1

Hello all! I was hoping I could get some opinions regarding the current entry for Guerlain's Œillet Pourpre. Œillet Pourpre is essentially a re-named and re-bottled version of another Guerlain fragrance from 2017 called Lui. The notes are similar, if not the exact same, but the bottles and names are drastically different.

My question here is, should there not be two separate entries for these fragrances? While they are the same fragrance in terms of ingredients, the packaging and naming are so wildly different that I would personally think two separate entries should be necessary. Part of my reasoning for this also lies in the fact that another Guerlain fragrance called Feve Gourmand, is also a re-released fragrance with a different name and a new bottle. It was originally known as Gourmand Coqin and was modified in a similar fashion to Lui/Œillet Pourpre.

If these fragrances could be submitted as two separate entries, what would be the best way to go about it? Would I submit an entry for Œillet Pourpre and modify the current entry to be the original Lui entry, or submit an entry for Lui and modify the current entry to fit the specifics correctly?

Thanks in advance for any help and comments!

Dealing with the research team is more trouble than it is worth. I'd say just drop it. If you absolutely have to, the only way you'll get them to change their mind is if you have articles, websites, images, and social media posts proving beyond a reasonable doubt that these two are different fragrances, and even then the chances are slim. Good luck.

Good to know. This seems to be the general consensus from what I've been reading. I'm still not sure how to navigate the research section and I'd rather not end up on anyone's list. Thank you for the reply!

The brand itself describes Œillet Pourpre as the new Lui, so as things stand it is a renaming, not a reformulation.

In order to separate the two perfumes, it must be proven that a reformulation has taken place, i.e. that the fragrance has changed. personal impressions do not play a role in this, but it must be proven.

At Parfumo, we want to ensure that the information we offer is as accurate as possible, so we rely on tangible statements from the brands and/or professional press and not on rumours or second- and third-hand information.

You are welcome to ask Guerlain if there have been any changes to the fragrance between Lui and Œillet Pourpre. If you have a definitive answer, this would be considered proof and the fragrances would be separated.
