Recommendations for a perfume from a German house... 1

I'd love to hear your recommendations around perfumes/scents from German houses!

I got into the habit of buying perfume as a souvenir for the places I visit.  In Italy, I bought a bottle of Santa Maria Novella.  In Iceland, I got my first Andrea Maack scent.  I love that each reminds me of my time in each country (the Santa Maria Novella is historic and sunny; the Andrea Maack is marine, spare, and beautiful like walking along the harbor in Reykjavik).

That said, the first place I ever visited was Germany...back in 2003 (which is somehow twenty-plus years ago).  I was a dirt-poor college student and scraped together the money for the trip, but I had no spare money for souvenirs.  I'd love to get a bottle now to round out my travel-collection and commemorate my time in such a beautiful country.

I'm not really sure the best place to start, so please give me your recommendation for German houses and your favorite perfumes from them!

You might want to look into J.F. Schwarzlose. I'm not very familiar with this house other than 1A-33 (2012) . People speak highly of Leder 6 .

I don't know if you'd like a German fragrance that was specifically released in 2003 (to align with the year of your memories) - but if so, here are a few from Parfumo's advanced search results!

A couple (from the search above) that seem to be going for reasonable prices on Ebay:

Flowing Woman
Ibiza Hippie

You should look into Harry Lehmann. It's a very old Berlin perfumery house!

This sounds like a wonderful idea, my vote would definitely go to Ibiza Hippie as Escada is my favourite German house and that particular fragrance is one of my all time favourites! It was very popular back in 2003. I used up my full bottle back then during that summer (oh sweet high school times... 😂) but afterwards I have managed to buy 2 mini bottles of it. I would really need a full bottle also.

Edit: Btw, I think most German people are posting on the German side of the forum only, and I guess the locals would have the best tips of German fragrance stores etc., so maybe try posting on the German forum too..? I don't know if they have an English section there but probably you could also use Google Translate to navigate, I have heard their forum is very active so you would probably get more replies there.

So smart to post on the German side of the forum 👏 that will probably yield more country-specific recommendations/familiarity than over here! And I agree, so many Escadas remind me of more youthful memories too 😂🥲 good times!!

Thank you so much! I didn't even see this feature (I'm still learning the site), but this is amazing. I can be a little pedantic, so getting something that would have been available in 2003 kinda scratches that itch, ha ha.

I really appreciate it - I have a few samples on the way!

There is also Art Brüt, I haven’t had a chance to try anything from this brand yet, but their discovery set is really not that expensive so it could be something interesting to try out! 🙂

@cloisterbell oh welcome, glad you're here! And I understand wanting to have certain details line up haha - good luck, hope you find something you enjoy from your samples! 🤗
