Perfumes developed and released during WW2
by DarkMatter | Perfume Discussions
...Hope this is in the right section.I have noticed that quite a few perfumes (such as Femme and Bandit) were developed and released during the war years. It was such a terrible time for everyone and life was turned on it's head throughout Europe. The idea that such substances of artistic beauty were created during such a dark period of history fascinates me.I am not posting this to discuss any of the political aspects of the war, I don't want to get into that at all. But I'm finding it difficult to find books, websites, blogs that discuss the production of fragrances during this period in Europe. It must have been very difficult to get the right ingredients so perfumers must have had to tailor their ideas according to what was available to them. Also, was it an industry that transcended national barriers? Or did they have to be content to just deal within Europe until the war was over? Anyone that has information, can recommend reading material, blogs, web articles that might be of interest, please let me know. There is obviously the book about Coco Chanel, but that isn't the avenue I want to explore.Thank you everyone! :D

Good-smelling cheapies are hard to find
by DarkMatter | Perfumes & Brands
...I'm a big fan of Jesus Del Pozo I have:HalloweenHalloween Fever (I was sent this by accident by an online retailer when I ordered Halloween and they told me to keep it and sent me the correct perfume as well - total win!)In BlackIn White - very reminiscent of Pure PoisonBlack Phoenix Alchemy Lab is great for unusual perfumes and they are only US$17 for an 8ml bottle of perfume oil that last forever.Ted Ladipus's White Soul can be picked up for a steal, I particularly like this one.Salvatore Ferragamo is another very reasonably priced designer. Have to say that not all of his perfumes have great lasting power but my favourite is Incanto.Franck Olivier's Franck Olivier is a gorgeous summery fruity perfume that can be picked up for next to nothing.

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by DarkMatter | Parfumo Community
...Thank you both! I just believe that everyone should respect everyone else and I get that vibe from Parfumo. Fragrantica seems to have descended into bitch central unfortunately. I have no time for bad behaviour, I'd rather spend time with people passionate about perfume that are mature and respectful. I'm glad I'm here now, I'm getting really stuck in! LOL :D

Guerlain Ylang & Vanille Aqua Allegoria Ylang & Vanille - Guerlain
by DarkMatter | Perfumes & Brands
...This is fascinating! There are a few really beautiful fragrances over the years that sold well that have been discontinued by various designers. I'm thinking this is why! :?

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by DarkMatter | Parfumo Community
...I was on Fragrantica couple of years ago and had to stop posting due to ill health. I felt really shy about going back when I was better and so lurked for a while and planned to start posting again once I felt more confident. But then I was truly shocked by some of the prejudice and bigotry on the site. I saw a thread where a girl was basically bullied due to her sexuality. Those that came to her defence were mocked and told that they were being rude and unacceptable. I don't know what happened to it, I gave up reading it after a while and went searching for another site to make my home. I am on BN as well but I don't participate there due to it always feeling rather elitist. So I was so glad to find Parfumo! This place is so friendly and I love the way I can blog and post pictures of my collection in an album and to the individual perfume pages! This is a great site, thank you to whoever came up with the concept, I shall be remaining a while. :D

Your Perfume - How about a refill?
by DarkMatter | Perfumes & Brands
...I'm all for recycling and I try and reuse things as much as possible, but I agree with the majority here. I just don't like the idea of refills, the perfume can be tampered with and there is no guarantee of quality if it's under artificial lighting or if lots of people can get their germs all over the equipment. Maybe I'm just getting fussy in my old age, but I'll buy a new bottle each time. :?

Comments on perfumes: compliments and insults
by DarkMatter | Perfumes & Brands
...I think the only perfume I've had a negative comment on was Organza. I was given it as a gift by the boss and, even though it really wasn't my type of perfume, I wore it a couple of times so that he knew that I was appreciative. Another lady in the office was quite outspoken about the perfume deciding that she was allergic to it and that I was, under no circumstances, to wear it again. Which was fine with me, I had an excuse not to wear it any more. :D Perfumes I've had compliments on are Pure Poison, A Scent, Kelly Caleche and my favourite BPAL, Tavern of Hell. :D
