New U.K. Postal rules.

If perfumes are hard to get, will we appreciate them more?
...That is what I asked in my Blog today, over at the German site, bemoaning these circumstances. It is ironic that technology connects the seller and the buyer at lightning speed and the physical product is hard to come by. http://www.parfumo.de/Benutzer/Pipette/Blog/Eintrag/Wird_Parfum_nun_mehr_geschaetzt_

New U.K. Postal rules.

New and novel ideas - Do you have some ?
...Well, since this is a problem, and not a small problem, there is a need for a solution.Problem: Perfume with alcohol is flammable and hazardous.Solution: Produce perfume in oil form. Produce perfume in gel form.____________________________________________________________________Problem: Perfume with alcohol is flammable and air shipment is out. Solution: Ship large quantities, in bulk, by ocean liner, takes longer, but not very expensive. ___________________________________________________________________Problem: Perfume is produced in local plants and needs to be shipped.Solution: Open more branches of plants to bring product closer to the consumer. This is an outlandish solution and expensive.___________________________________________________________________Problem: Perfume is housed in attractive glass bottles.Solution: Perfume in glass bottles, before shipping, gets a protective cushioning around the glass bottle that prevents any harm in case it explodes in flames. ____________________________________________________________________YOUR IDEAS ?

U.K. businesses will suffer
...If there are such strict Rules, the U.K. businesses are probably going to suffer, also. They are losing their international customers. In Fragrantica, we discussed the troubles of swapping members, just individuals trading.Off Topic:Andy Tauer has similar troubles with international shipping originating from Switzerland.

EXILED! The stories from Defected Fragrantican Members
by Pipette | Parfumo Community
At Parfumo all issues are promptly addressed
...That is the difference. There is a team of moderators here. And, if anything big comes up, the issue is promptly handled. At Fragrantica a lot of drama results because the moderators (probably because of lack of time and dealing with a large volume of posts) don't step in early enough to not let issues blow out of proportion.

You can always use another handbag ?
by Pipette | Off Topic
...It looks nice - but to the price tag you will have to add shipping. If you are lucky to see this one in a store, you may get a discount if you open a store credit card. When I got my last Longchamp bag (just LOVED it) at Bloomingdale's brick and mortar store, the SA knocked off 10% with a coupon at hand, and another 15% was taken off the bill when it arrived because I opened a brand new Bloomingdale's store credit card. I have mentioned before that "I would rather not eat" and get perfumes or bags.Well, there is always "rice and beans". (In German, the expression is "bread and water".) In reality, it is "chicken", but I digress ...

A question to native English speakers: sillage
by Pipette | Perfumes & Brands
...I will split hairs now ... When the person wearing a strong perfume is sitting still = projection (scent emanating from the body)When the person wearing a strong perfume is walking = sillage (scent leaving a trail, like a boat)When the person wearing a strong perfume is dancing = projection AND sillage (scent emanating from the body AND leaving a twirling trail, not like a boat)

A question to native English speakers: sillage
by Pipette | Perfumes & Brands
...Apicius:DutchSniffer:Technically everyone here who distinguishes between the 2 words (sillage/projection) is right and I have no problem using sillage in English (with a French pronunciation). But what about German or Dutch? In Dutch it feels weird to say 'sillage' so I say 'projectie' or 'spoor'(Spur). What do Germans say?On the German Parfumo, 'Sillage' is very common. I sometimes use 'Projektion', but it is also common to speak about 'Abstrahlung' - emission.I am quite sure that the use of the term "Abstrahlung" has been created on the German Parfumo. So, maybe in English we could also use 'scent emission' or 'the emission of the fragrance'. @ Apicius - Does not the word "Abstrahlung" imply deflection of something that touched the body from the outside ?Would the word "Ausstrahlung" be more accurate, as the perfume emanates from the skin to the immediate environment ?Well, technically seen, the pray of perfume hits the body and the body deflects it - thus "Abstrahlung" ?My intuition votes for the use of "Ausstrahlung". *************Perfume emits - comes outPerfume emanates - comes out in wavesPerfume exudes - comes out in thicknessOh, to be a poet - a rose by any other name ...

A question to native English speakers: sillage
by Pipette | Perfumes & Brands
The first meaning of Sillage
...I am not a native English speaker and only want to throw in a little side thought.Projection seems to indicate the perfume emanating from the body to the enviroment, forming a circle of perfume molecules around the person.Sillage seems to indicate a boat forging through the waters and in its wake leave the water disturbed in form of a trail.http://translation.babylon.com/french/to-english/sillage/ Notice that Babylon translator gives the word "track" whereas I believe that "trail" is more apt. So a woman/man passing through a room leaves a trail of perfume molecules that others perceive immediately and still after she/he has left. Thus, "Projection" covers one meaning and "Trail" covers another. Now I leave the floor to true English speakers to pick the meanings apart. It seems to be "chic" in the perfume lovers world to use the French word 'sillage' and then the uninitiated perfume chasers ask, "What is that?"

Re: A Help Section
...Apicius:Pipette:Maybe I am missing something but there does not seem to be on the International site a Help Section as it is established on the German site, that is to say: HilfeSimple questions can be entered into a box and the request is acknowledged, and the reply is later on e-mailed to the member. This feature is absolutely great. Do you have something like that here and I did not see it ??Pipette, did I miss something? :? Where is this help feature? I cannot find it. Can you give me the link?If somebody has a question, he or she can always post it somewhere in the forum, and it will take only minutes until there will be answers and support be several other users. This works fine, no need to change that. Yes, I will be happy to provide the links.http://www.parfumo.de/ On the very top of the page, next to Einstellungen there is Hilfe. Click on that, there is:http://www.parfumo.de/Hilfe-Center Click on to: Keine passende Antwort gefunden? Nutzen Sie das Hilfe-Formularwhich opens up to:http://www.parfumo.de/help_form.php?section_id= Into the box you can enter an elaborate question and send it out. After a few hours, you get an reply to your private e-mail address.**********************I have used it and have gotten a rather prompt reply from I don't exactly remember whom, telling me an answer. **********************In the Hilfe-Center is also an arrangement of Frequently Asked Questions with the Answers. How do you feel about the oud trend?
by Pipette | Perfumes & Brands
...Digindirt:I met a guy tonight at the fragrance store, he was looking for Amouage. He told the shop owner that he wanted an Oud fragrance. Long story short, he said he is from Saudi Arabia and is used to the finer Ouds. After taking a look at pictures on my iPad of my Yas and Arabian Oud bottles, he determined they were all junk! lolSome of us may never know if we have ever smelled "pure" Oud As he comes from the Orient (Saudi Arabia) he probably knows a lot about ouds. He will have to explain to you as to why Yas is supposed to be "junk" as I was impressed by their Yas internet ads that it was fine and expensive. When he shops here in the U.S., is he looking here for a better price on Amouage?

How do you feel about the oud trend?
by Pipette | Perfumes & Brands
Bond No. 9 stores
...The employees will tell you, with a straight face, that "only pure oud" is used in their many oud scents. How would I know the difference? I don't. I like "Manhattan" - it smells chocolaty. Whatever oud was used, that is ok by me. The scent is pleasant._____________________________________________________Mona di Orio is said to have a nice oud. Which one ?

You can always use another handbag ?
by Pipette | Off Topic
...A handbag has to be held and felt, that is true. Sometimes I have snapped up a no-name bag but it was well made for its type. Zippers work, there is a lining, a reinforcement of the bottom.Sometimes there is a bag "just the right thing" and it is waving at you "buy me, buy me". It is fun to buy that bag "on the spot" and dump the contents from the old bag into the new one, and get rid of the old bag in the nearest paper basket ... wishful thinking. In real life I have done something like that only once, as described in my "Der Kunde ist Koenig" Blog-Artikel on the German site, where I gave my old handbag away to a stranger across the street when leaving the store with that new bag. Like perfume, the bag says something about the wearer.I am a sucker for bags and will go broke like that.

What feminine frags can a man wear in your opinion? Shalimar Parfum Initial - Guerlain
by Pipette | Perfumes & Brands
A "Shalimar" that does not smell like "Shalim
...When this flanker came out, it made waves. Not only was it of good quality, it also gained interest among the men. It is fruity and has a tonka bean dry down. This scent is only riding on the name, but could very well stand on its own."Shalimar Parfum Initial" by Guerlain

How do you feel about the oud trend?
by Pipette | Perfumes & Brands
...Personally, I feel two ways about it. For a while, it was exciting to discover those Arabian perfume oil blends, until here, too, boredom has now set in.The industry, however, is not tired. Everything has now be made more interesting by giving it an oud twist, bar none, not even Old Spice. So, oud has its place and there is no denying that pure, unadulterated oud is probably pure perfume bliss for the nose, especially for a trained nose.I don't say, forget about it. I only say that too much hype has been made about it. So, if there are a few excellent oud scents in both among the Western designer perfumes, or in the Arabian world, let's recommend them to each other and try those out.
