...SA's are a mixed bag with me. I agree that Nordstrom tends to be the class act regarding fragrances sales and other departments as well. Others reatilers are hit or miss.One instance that stands out in my mind is when I had one very nice young woman at Macy's who kept dropping citrus aquatics my way because they all smelled so nice on her boyfriend. Then, she tried to discourage me from a couple of scents because they were for the older, over 40 crowd....I smiled and said said "That's me!" At that point, she looked embarrassed and she sent her manager over, a lovely, mature woman, who took her time and helped me pick out a scent I loved, and sent me home with loads of free samples....all of which were for the "older" crowd...LOL. I will visit her again when I want something right away.I miss the old days before Macy's absorbed The Bon Marche....I always loved getting fragrances there.

...I recently ordered some spring and summer frags from Benetton (Blu, Verde, Nero, & Cold). I also ordered some Cuba Royal to see if it compares to 1 million like several people have mentioned on other sites. Amazon also had some of the Yacht Man stuff from Myrurgia for $3-4 US, so I couldn't resist. At worst, they will make some nice cheap linen spray, or I may actually like them and use them for casual wear.Oh, and I did buy another large bottle of Cuba Gold.

...I am fairly new to the review world myself, and am far from sophisticated. I am training my nose as well, and getting better, and hopefully providing a semi-decent review for the site here and there.I value a straightforward approach to reviews. Aside from the notes pyramid, I like to get the reviewer's impression of how well those notes blend, what comes forth during the initial spray, and what the perfume settles down into. A few sentences regarding that, and maybe an evaluation or a comparison to some similar fragrance, which I may know. I like to make an informed decision.I do get frustrated with reviews that refer to fragrances as "old man" or "old lady" perfumes, as well as reviews that simply refer to the fragrance as "common." Those labels are too subjective to really mean much in my opinion.First thing, a younger person with a more sober and mature attitude may enjoy that fragrance (myself in my 20s), and all of these "old man" or "old lady" fragrances were once popular with the young crowd. They are just not what is currently fashionable in designer fragrances. On the other hand, "young" perfume may be a great choice for someone with a youthful spirit. My 60 something mother and my grandmother in her late 80s both rock several "young" perfumes. My grandmother especially...get her a bottle of Chantilly, and it will sit there unused. However, a bottle of CK One will be used to the last drop.As far "common" goes, I always wonder why it is common. Is it bad blending, less than stellar ingredients, something you smell everywhere??? Or is it beneath the nose of the reviewer?I guess I like reviews where someone honestly says whether they like it or not, and why.

...I get a lot of the old time radio mp3 files from over at the Internet Archive. I too love the "CBS Radio Mystery Theater"...haven't listed to all of them but I downloaded all seasons of it and play them as I have time.Another show I like is "My Favorite Husband" with Lucille Ball and Richard Denning. It was the blueprint for "I Love Lucy" and many of the story lines were later used for the series.
