...Sometimes I put on a fragrance I like but don't dare to wear in public (I sleep alone, I should add). The best example for that is Joop Femme, which I find quite calming with all the vanilla in it, but which I find a bit vulgar and overpowering at the same time. I've done it as well with "Maroussia", "Eden", "Obsession Night" and "Chloé (1975)", although I do wear those in public as well, if only occasionally.

So true - only it doesn't necessarily have to be a cheap frag. A heavy overdose even of a quality scent can be just as overpowering and nauseating.

Books: what are you reading right now?

..."Notting Hell" by Rachel Johnson is my current "handbag book" to read on public transport, in waiting rooms etc. Not the best choice for that purpose and interrupted reading, because the perspective changes from one personnage to the next, so it's easy to mix up who is who and the way they are connected.

... CyberToy1: Eternity: Yes of course you can eat tonka bean. There are lots of dessert varieties with tonka bean, rather to be found at higher priced restaurants for gourmets. But you can do it yourself as well e.g. when cooking a pudding, you put some tonka beans in the milk and leave it for a while and put it on the stove, then the milk gets the delcious tonka bean flavour etc. There is also chocolate with crushed tonka bean in specialised chocolate shops.....mhhhh, I love ths flavour. What really Eternity, you can eat Tonka beans???wow I need to check those buggers out. Yes you can. They have a bit of a reputation at the moment because they contain coumarin (responsible for the flavour & fragrance) which in high doses can mess with your blood coagulation and might cause cancer of the liver. But at least in Germany tonka beans have been used to flavour food for ages, I have a cookbook from my greatgrandmother with a recipe for pudding (flan) flavoured with tonka bean.

...I like it, too, and I must admit I don't really get any leather, either :oops: What about "Donna White" by Trussardi? I passed it on recently so I can't check, but I remember a leathery base note, and it's definitely a chypre.

...I started to use perfume in my early twens, and one of the first fragrances I bought was "Ex'cla-ma'tion". I also remember I bought two fragrances by The Bodyshop, "Roma"which has nothing to do with Laura Biagiotti, and "Dewberry". I still have the bottles.

...Looks impressive. I can't really name my favourite and my avoided notes. Most of the ones I'm wary of can be perfectly pleasant even for my nose, it just depends on the way they are built into the whole structure. For example I'm not too fond of patchouli if it's taking the lead, but it can a very useful teamplayer as well.

...Today, it's "Obsession Night for Men". I think that's a perfect unisex scent, even though I grant that it possibly complements male skin even better than female (viz. mine). I didn't have the opportunity to compare yet.

What fragrance group/s do you prefer ?

......except incest and country dancing :wink: There is no group I can exclude as a whole, but flowery scents are pretty much a safe bet as long as they are not overly aquatic or musky, and they shouldn't be stinkers - but that's difficult to define in few words. Chypres are not for me generally, but I like a few of them pretty much. I am just discovering gourmand and oriental fragrances.

...I tried to learn Polish just for fun, we had a language exchange in university. But I gave up after two terms, a) because the teacher of the second course was rotten and b) because Polish is so complicated - I was still in 1st person singular present tense after a whole year and even that was rather flaky. And I always thought I was good with languages... :roll:
