Urban Whispers
It is late autumn 2019 and I am standing in my favorite perfume shop, my gaze falling on the beautifully designed bottles from Allsaints. Minimalist lines, a cap reminiscent of concrete, and monochrome photographs of plants. I am excited and my interest is piqued.
The names of the compositions evoke associations and fuel even more curiosity. I just want to like these scents. So I give them a try.
However, Metal Wave disappointed me at first. Nothing metal. Nothing wave. And no metallic wave either. Whatever. I want to at least give a late evening uprising a chance with a sample. Which scent I took with me that day remains forever hidden in oblivion.

It is autumn 2020 and the brand has made its way back into my memory; the sample I took last year is still half full, and I find a good deal in the souk.
Okay, I want to give the brand another chance. And somehow, Metal Wave sounds really brilliant in theory.
Alright. As the third of its kind, it enters my collection.
One thing upfront: Allsaints has proven to me multiple times that they can create extraordinary scents.

So, Metal Wave.
Let’s briefly say goodbye to the idea that anything metallic or wet has flowed into this fragrance. It hasn’t. Instead, the scent is rather warm and dry, not cool and damp.
And compared to rugged scents, this is a candy store. Luckily, my interest in fragrances is very broad.

Oh, and may I quickly express my thanks for the great bottle design before I dive in? The back of the label being adorned with the same photograph found on the packaging, making the bottle look like a little work of art when placed "incorrectly," is just a fantastic idea.

Now, though. It is Friday evening in a larger city on a mild summer day. A light, very pleasant breeze is blowing, and the uprising seems not to have taken place yet. Whether the first three scents from the brand are somehow related or have a dramatic sequence is, of course, pure speculation, but it fits the image this scent projects in my mind.
So we find ourselves at a café or a pub in the pedestrian zone, where some people are drinking coffee, others already wine or beer, and some are flipping through their newspaper or a book that has already started to yellow. And now a gust of wind in the form of a wave carries this mélange through the metallic facades of the metropolis into my nose. Ta-da, there is the wave of metal. Just without any wave and metal.

Yes, it is a very successful scent. Although completely without surprises or twists, it does have one or two twists at the beginning that one wouldn’t expect. Just perhaps one should let the expectations from the name influence them a little less.
It annoys me a bit that I didn’t try it earlier. On the other hand...

This is the perfect wave...
... this is the perfect day ...
This song by Juli comes to mind as I discover the Metal Wave bottle.
I spray cautiously, as I don't like metallic notes in fragrances.
But the term "wave" attracts me - as it reminds me of a beach walk with a sea breeze.
However, when I spray, I encounter neither metal nor maritime notes.
Nevertheless, the scent is good - round and soft like a wave - which makes "Wave" in the title still applicable.
Wave is musky - creamy - and it embraces trustfully.
The woods are flexible and are finely accompanied by magnolia.
The juniper berries give this slightly tart musky character.
I gladly let this soft wave flow over my skin.
Despite the misleading title, it's a pleasant scent with a special statement that you don't hear everywhere.
For me, a candidate for purchase.

Wood in front of the Metal Hut
“Metal Wave” is the first scent from AllSaints that comes under my nose. It strongly reminds me of a more generic version of “Bois D'Argent” or “Bois D'Iris.” No wow factor, but solid and pleasant craftsmanship. The name of the perfume is misleading and could hardly be further from the content. However, it appeals to me and makes me eager to test more from the still very much under-the-radar brand…

“Metal Wave” evokes neither aquatic nor metallic associations. Much more, it reminds me of old, dusty books and wooden shelves, of Lara Croft in Alexandria, of lovely flowers in the form of a cream, of minimal berry cuddle hours in front of the (TV) fireplace. Signature-worthy. A bit boring. A bit too tame. But basically, it’s exactly my style. I’ve just smelled it too often and even a little better or have it in my collection. Slightly sticky vanilla. Not bargain bin, not pudding, but certainly not niche.

Bottle: fine cap, very minimalist beautiful all around
Longevity: 6 hours, more likely longer
Sillage: a skin caresser; one for the wearer

Conclusion: no metal, no hype wave. Instead, a lot of dusty wood and bibliothecal paper - softest signature. Nothing special, but good.

All Day Champion
I have owned this fragrance for a long time and from the very beginning, I liked it exceptionally well.
So far, there has been no review because even today, I find it difficult to describe this scent.

This is by no means to suggest that it is highly complex, difficult, or special, but particularly with regard to the fragrance pyramid and the variability within the DNA, it has not been easy for me to put the scent into words.

There are days when I spray Metal Wave and the scent reveals itself from the start as very woody, with a subtle juniper vibe in the background.
But there are also days when the fragrance starts off quite quickly with a sweet, somewhat powdery DNA where one might think that the queen of spices (vanilla) has a hand in it.

Yes, over time the scent becomes sweeter, that is beyond question.
However, the start, at least for me, is sometimes marked by significant differences - exciting!

At the end of the fragrance chain, however, the same result always stands.
A rather soft-woody, quite sweet, light / friendly scent with a moderate projection that shouldn't disturb anyone too much.

Personally, I like the scent as I mentioned at the beginning, exceptionally well. It is suitable for almost any occasion, except for sports, where I wouldn't wear it.
It has the optimal balance of sillage and projection and does not lean towards either the feminine or the masculine side.
I like to refer to the scent as my "All Day Champion," but I do not want to commit to it as a classic signature scent.

In terms of cost, AllSaints also falls into a very affordable category for what you get. On sale, you can sometimes acquire it for significantly under 40 euros. For a 100 ml bottle, that's absolutely fine. I also like the bottle itself for its simple design, shape, and the very fitting cap.

A Push in the Right Direction
Inspired by a promising review, I simply couldn't resist trying this fragrance. Because obviously, the name here is just sound and smoke. All Saints has always impressed me with powerful scents like "Incense City." Such intense notes are definitely my thing, but every now and then my heart longs for comforting fragrances - creamy, powdery, and sweet. And that's exactly what this creation promises to be.

The naming of such fragrances probably puts many off. Perhaps the marketing department wanted to entice those who usually lean towards "hardcore scents" that smell of leather and tobacco. Maybe one should discover the powdery, sweet side within themselves without immediately being seen as a softie. A marketing strategy that skillfully lures everyone into new territory.

At first, the fragrance presents itself as woody and light. Yet, the floral note already flashes through. You can immediately tell that "Metal Wave" is a delicate little work of art. The papyrus note gives a dry paper texture that makes the whole thing interesting and feather-light. Over time, the fragrance becomes much sweeter and creamier, reminding me of an improved version of "Milky Musk" by Molton Brown in the dry down. Powdery, dry, and sweet. The only downside is that the woody paper note doesn't remain consistently present. Nevertheless, a beautiful, powdery, and almost milky scent lingers. Really well done, especially when considering the price aspect.

It slightly reminds me of a mix between L’eau Papier and Milky Musk. A lovely rounded affair.

Hard to describe, to me seems to dry down to a powdery vanilla. Asked my mother's opinion and she said it smells like sweat.

Cold concrete, papyrus & dry vanilla that sweetens up as it wears. Similar to Eau Duelle EDT. An underappreciated gem in my collection

Very very similar to Dyp at a fraction of the price. Cozy spicy non gourmand vanilla. To me this also smells like the Aria in LV, IYKYK

Eau Duelle greets you at the start, then it gets woodier and a bit rougher. I think the name is fantastic. My favorite music genres :)

Warm winds of wood dust
Become waves of soft cream
That tell a story in sepia tones
You're still puzzling
As they are already leaving

So many aroma-chemicals, so little soul.
The synthetic drydown torments you like a Dementor... and sucks out your soul. Help me, Harry.

Here, there's almost just an undefinable mix of synthetic powder puff that gradually turns creamier. Somehow sad.

A fine airy-light, peppery wood, dry-powdery, bright and transparent.
Unfortunately just a hint of a scent, but a beautiful one.

It doesn't come off as metallic to me. First bitter-woody, the scent then becomes sweeter and subtly spicy. No floral notes here...
