Rum with Coconut...
I must say, I don't find this one as a "dark" or "heavy" scent in any way. I immediately get a rum and coconut vibe here, which is really quite nice. To me this fragrance has a boozy, tropical aspect to it. In other words, it doesn't remind me entirely of a jazz club.

Nevertheless it is a really good fragrance. I do get rum and tobacco, although the leather is faint. I also see this as sophisticated and with depth. I can see this working beautifully on any person's skin. I wholly recommend it to try if you like the boozier type of sophisticated scents. Give it a try and you may be surprised. It's one I like for sure.

Rum? I dunno...
Wore this one for about a week now and am quite happy with how it degrades over time on clothing. The overall character of the drydown remains and doesn't become too musty. To me, that's usually a sign of quality. That said, this is nowhere near a masterful scent IMO and definitely not worth the money.

Ouch. I know. But I was honestly expecting a little more -- booze that is. For example, the rum note in Perry Ellis' BVA is unmistakable and actually smells like rum, straight off the top. Ditto with By Kilian's STH. The rum in this one however, smells more to me like a synthetic iris concotion, similar to the one in Armaf's Futura La Homme or Zara's Tone Indeterminee (even though that one doesn't have iris officially listed). It's definitely not a BAD smell, but doesn't really evoke any "boozy" qualities for me - more like "warm floral".

It's also not strong. Like, AT ALL. But that's certainly not a bump, since it does have that slightly warm quality that could become cloying if it screamed like a beast. But the blend...hmmm...I dunno. There are a few notes in there that don't quite mesh that well. I have a feeling it's the styrax, sage and vetiver combination that doesn't quite sit right if I smell it too close. The bolded fragrance notes above are a fair approximation of what I get too - a tiny bit of tobacco and vanilla, with a whole lot of that "rum" weirdness.

The sillage is quite nice and dense though, which is a plus in cold weather. It would also fit very well with a wool coat and scarf. But for the money...I think there are far better options, even in the designer realm. Code Profumo, Dior Homme and Valentino Uomo Intense come to mind and I would take any of those over Jazz Club. I even wore this once while playing some casual jazz with a few friends - sunburst epiphone dot in hand - just to see if I was feelin' it. I wasn't.

Instead, for a night with the band, give me Versace Man or Pure Malt - two more excellent, more interesting and less expensive options over Jazz club. Like I said, it ain't bad, and the ingredients are quality, but the smell could use a little work, especially for the price. I'm glad I got to wear it though, but if someone were to gift me a bottle, I definitely wouldn't keep it. Maybe it's just my nose.

Take Me Back to the Speakeasy...
On days like today, where the weather is hardly my best friend, where there’s a chill in the air, but the sun is shining brightly, where I’ve dressed for summer, but am attacked by the frosty nips of a passing winter, where I feel down and out, too tired to move but too anxious to sit still, this little gem is my friend. For those of you not interested in the rambling of an amateur nose, here’s the TLDR: Dark rooms, warm, inviting, boozy cocktails, with a cubano lit a table or two away, the smell of tobacco wafting towards you. A must have for anyone that loves perfumery as an artform and scents that are safe, but nuanced. Definitely a compliment puller from anyone that gets close to you. (But trust your nose, not my words)

To everyone that’s with me till now, a small disclaimer. I am fairly new to the world of fragrances and perfumery, and a lot of my experience before I was bitten by the bug was “that’s nice” and “that’s...fresh?” However, as with most things, the more I began to explore, the more I realized that the rabbit hole is far deeper than I could have begun to imagine, and quite frankly, I have no intention of climbing out any time soon.

Now then, onto my thoughts about this perfume, what all I get from it, and what it evokes in me.

The olfactory fireworks (and yes, they are fireworks) start from the moment this hits your skin, but they aren’t explosions. They go off at medium volume, and bring with them the most delectable aromas. A slight tartness, a vanillic warmth, a sweet rum like scent, and the slightest hint of an abstract coconut, flitting through. A tropical cocktail at an upscale bar, one even those who don’t dabble in the devil’s drink can appreciate. Here, in this opening spray, the fragrance is already a winner. But it doesn't stop there.

As the sweet warmth of the rum and vanilla settle into the heat of my skin, something else begins to emerge. A bitterness to balance it out, almost vegetal, but not quite. I don’t know what this bitterness is, but it certainly plays to the cocktail aspect in my mind (a Rum Old Fashioned perhaps?) This bitterness takes the cloying aspect out of the sweetness, and turns it into an almost burnt caramel; deep, ambery, bittersweet. And from amidst this bittersweet concoction, comes a smoky love affair, that I can only liken to a half burning cigar, sitting in a forgotten corner, blowing it’s aroma to me on the air of those that pass it, with hints of leather. Something like an old reading chair you haven’t seen for a decade or two, but then when you sit in it again, you’re reminded of that comfort you’d forgotten.

Now, as for longevity and sillage, I’ve had a mixed bag. It lasted on my skin once for 16 hours, even surviving a shower, but another time, it was gone in two, a fleeting memory of beauty, so I can’t say much other than your mileage may vary. But one thing is certain, no matter how long it lasts on you, the journey that it takes you on is worth every second, long or short. It’s truly an art piece in a bottle, and has left me excited to try the other offerings this house has to offer.

If you're looking for the perfect autumn fragrance to make you feel better in your checked coat and leather boots, you've come to the right place. Jazz club is one of the most unique tobacco fragrances on the market. Perfectly described by its creator, it does its job flawlessly. Like alcohol and cigars - it goes to the head. Massenet has very carefully chosen the notes that we first smell. Pink pepper and oil of Java vetiver appear on the first scene, perfectly spicing up this interesting blend. They make the fragrance spicy and a little aromatic which is good for the further developing notes. When the rum comes into play, it really does feel like a Brooklyn club. It is a very intense note making the whole thing sweet and alcoholic, but not overly so as in some tacky sweeties. The binder and at the same time the most noticeable note in this interesting composition is the characteristic tobacco. Very pleasant, well-dried, giving the impression of a well-made cigar. It is not overly tiring but perfectly balanced. Accompanied by sweet vanilla, framing this creation with a pleasant warmth, it sets a high bar for other tobacco scents. After a period of a few hours, the fragrance becomes very quiet and pleasant against the skin - warm, a little leathery and sweet. There's a reason it has become so popular, it's worth the price. The well-considered choice of ingredients will entice more than a few people to buy it, as it did me. Ideal for daytime as well as autumn/winter nights, it does not tire the environment in any way. It is an addictive yet "safe" fragrance, I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to surprise not only others but also themselves.

Autumn scent with a cozy chill vibe
I smelled this several times over the years off a test strip and was less than impressed. I couldn't figure out why there was so much hype from all the You tube reviewers out there. On my third testing at a Sephora I sprayed it on the back of my hand and wrist and without smelling it directly continued to shop. While waiting in line at the register 30 minutes later I caught a whiff of it and was shocked to realize that the scent was giving off an addictive mild dry boozy smell. It's a wonderful warm cozy rum and vetiver scent with a mild dose of smooth tobacco and a touch of suede and vanilla. This truly smells like Autumn in a bottle to me. I instantly had to get it. Definitely not a big projector but has decent longevity and is extremely pleasant to the nose in the dry down. It's a unique scent that you can wear September to May, night or day. I'm very glad to have it in my collection.

Jazz Club reminds me of Malibu rum, a coconut liqueur, boozy and creamy. The combination with smoke and tobacco makes the scent unpleasant.

My dumb reach for fall and winter. Powdery, boozy tobacco with some slight incense. Solidly unisex; smells better on my girlfriend than me.

Rum and tobacco on top of an intense sweetness. Might be too sweet for some and a little overpriced, but smells awesome in the air

Most Margiela scents tend to get the evocative side spot on. This one is pleasant enough but I couldn't even find the door to the Jazz Club.

Deep and velvety scent. Bittersweet rather than sticky sweet. Evokes the picture of "old money" luxury.
