Interesting Facts

Gulabsingh Johrimal is a traditional Indian perfumery company based in Old Delhi, founded in 1816. It is considered one of the oldest surviving houses of traditional Indian fragrances.

The company was founded by Lala Gulab Singh from Jhajjar, now Haryana, and his son Lala Johrimal in Chandni Chowk, Delhi. Originally known as “Gulab Gundhi ki Dukaan,” which means “Gulab the Perfumer's Shop,” the perfumery developed into a well-known supplier of attar perfume oils and incense.

The perfume house specializes in the production of natural fragrance oils (Ruh), which are manufactured using traditional Indian Deg-Bhapka distillation techniques. Flowers, woods, herbs, and spices are processed to obtain pure, alcohol-free perfume oils.

The use of fragrances in India can be traced back archaeologically to the Indus civilization around 5,000 years ago, where aromatic plants and resins were used for ritual and cosmetic purposes.
