Vietnamese Red Kinam
King K Nam from Agar Aura.

Another oud oil that hails from Vietnam and honors the reputation they have become known for. It has a pronounced red soil facet, making it almost feel like a Cambodian Crassna. However, it's not perceivable as fruity, as these Cambodians come across, rather earthy and mineral. The Laterite soil chord is something that I've detected with only one other Bhutanese oud oil. It's a unique trait here, and something I haven't smelled in other Vietnamese oils. I would say overall, it does feel different from the typical Vietnamese profile that displays bitter and somehow earthy nuances.

KKN starts with a nutty, honeyed sweetness, topped with cinnamon. There is a bitter green facet next to that with an almost cooling, mentholated quality that numbs your nose. The red soil note creeps into the heart of the oil and becomes the dominant trait at that stage. The sweetness never fades away, nor the green-minty facet. I feel that in the dry down, it shapes more into a typical Vietnamese profile, and the woody backbone becomes detectable, showcasing the slightest touch of earthiness and bitterness. This oil is crystal clear to the point where it almost feels all about the top notes, except for the base, where it gains weight. It improved since I first got it. Back then, it was still very fresh. It seems to gain more depth, body, and more of that bitter quality these oils are known for. I'd say that the Laterite soil note has also toned down a bit. Overall, an amazing oil with strong kinamic facets and nose numbing effect. Red, golden, green, and light brown are the colors I see with this one. Sweeter than most Vietnamese oils that I have tried.
