My third review of the Note di Colonia series from AdP is about the
Note di Colonia IV. After the
Note di Colonia II was only moderately or not at all convincing, and the
Note di Colonia III was better, the
Note di Colonia IV is an in-between. Somehow I want to like it, but the spark just won't come across.
Now, what does the fragrance smell like and how did I come to this decision?
- The opening of
Note di Colonia IV is very fresh, similar to the other Colognes, with bergamot and mandarin contributing.
- This is followed by a rose note, which is not potent, but rather has the vibe of light rose water and is bright. The orange blossom is only slightly perceptible. Strange somehow; you start very fresh and get an artificial rose water note added, somehow it sounds cool, but doesn't smell cool.
- In the drydown, the fragrance gets slightly better; more resinous, more balsamic due to the slightly resinous-sweet labdanum and opoponax. Yes, together with the rose it has a slightly oriental touch, but somehow the overall picture is not so coherent, at least for me.
- the H/S is better than with the other two fragrances, but we mustn't forget it still has a low concentration, which is simply challenging on Price Day.
To summarize; you have to like it, you have to like fresh scents with rose water and this resinousness in the drydown. Absolutely not a blind-buy recommendation, even if the drydown is beautiful.
