green gourmand

Balmya is the only scent I've ever thought of as a green gourmand. And, while that sounds disgusting, it is really quite pretty. For the first couple of hours on me, it has a pleasantly sappy-green-leaf note faintly similar to Miller et Bertaux green, green, green. It's not quite verbena, because it's not lemony, but it has that same sense of a bright green plant leaf crushed between your fingers. That note is combined with a sweet coffee note, like a shot of espresso with a couple of tablespoons of sugar in it.

Over time, the green takes a back seat to a soft woody vanilla. At this point, I think a bit of Comptoir Sud Pacifique's Vanille Mokha, though I find Balmya much less cloying. The fruits that are listed don't register distinctly with me, so it doesn't seem to be in fruity-floral land. (Though the bottle, which I consider ugly, looks like it contains a fruity-floral.)

Balmya is a refined, pretty scent available for a bargain price at the US online discounters. I'm happy to have made its acquaintance!

Very French and a bit foreign...

I discovered Balmya in 2002 during a short vacation in the window of a perfume shop in Bruges. The unusual bottle immediately caught my eye, and as a perfume lover, I had to test the scent right away. Here is my impression: Balmya is and remains an exotic addition to my perfume collection. The slightly bitter coffee note combines in the top note with sweet passion fruit and later with milky cappuccino accords. Pink pepper runs through the entire scent profile, but only very lightly without ever becoming piercing. Vanilla, barely recognizable as a single note, adds a flattering sweetness to the fragrance. Balmya fits very well into today's times. However, this perfume was probably not created for the mass market. The described combination of such extraordinary notes gives the scent a special touch, very French and a bit foreign...

Venice

Why do I think of Venice with this fragrance variant?
So many scents and impressions rush through my mind at once, and yet I have never been to Venice.
What do I associate with Balmya now?
Café, cappuccino, cupcakes, tiramisu, ice cream, ricotta cheesecake (oh man), brioches, pizza, salad, vino, aperol...
The fluttering of pigeons, sun, blue sky, the murmuring and whispering of the many tourists, the hectic serving and bustling of the waitstaff. Street musicians, souvenirs, sitting in the sun on a chair, sunglasses on, watching the many people, the feeling of bliss and a deeply satisfied sigh and smile.
I could write so much more, but I think you know what I mean.

All in all, the top note is sparkling, lively, juicy, and fruity without being sticky.
The heart note creates this "pleasure," this passion, this feeling of comfort. Vanilla and coffee so perfectly combined.
In the dry down, the base note with cappuccino, iris flower, cashmere wood, sandalwood. Which rounds off this day in Venice, frames it, and creates lasting memories.

A beautiful fragrance that conveys the feeling of summer and sun, vacation and enjoyment.
And in wintertime, when you’re fed up with this cold (oh dear, which is just about to come...), THEN just drift away with Balmya.

I admit, I can't pass by Balmain fragrances.
And Balmya also made its way into my bag untested.
I read: floral, woody, oriental.

And these three magical words did not overpromise.
The fragrance starts bright and fruity with bergamot and passion fruit - with angelica adding a slight bitterness.
The jasmine is full and floral, rounded off with an aromatic coffee note that is lightly sweetened with vanilla.
The cappuccino is delicately sprinkled with pepper and gets a special touch.
Cashmere and sandalwood add to the oriental character.

A multifaceted composition that offers the nose plenty of variety.
