Opera Magna's Morphing
I knew it was good news the moment I laid eyes on it. Albeit it was released three years ago, I put my hands on it just recently, after I bought the newest Le Nouvel. The first impression I had when I sniffed it on the paper strip was something I already knew. No one was more surprised than I when I spritzed on L'Eau on my skin and found myself surrounded by something akin to those original aquatic scents that dominate the middle nineties, yet infinitely wickeder, drier, and more intriguing.
Initially, I thought it was evocative of CK One, the tender opening with bergamot-violet-musk was pretty similar, but I was wrong. Or better, the more time went on, the more it was reminiscent of something distinct, a little metallic, aquatic, salty, like the sea breeze. I had to go back to more than twenty years ago, and suddenly the scent took shape into my mind: Azzaro Chrome.
L'Eau is morphing between CK One and Azzaro Chrome. Morphing is a unique effect in motion pictures and animations that changes (or morphs) one image or one shape into another through a seamless transition, or an intermediate step between the two. If L'Eau were a picture, it would be the morphing of that two Opera Magna.

L'Eau is not a flanker of Pour Homme except they share the same bottle, this one with a transparent glass showing a pale yellowish juice and silver plastic cap. The mandarin orange peel and herbaceous and aqueous violet leaf tamper the narrow but pungent opening of bergamot's cooling blast. A dry but effervescent beginning gives way to a lush juicy spicy and marine heart balanced by sharp cedarwood.
L'Eau is already as brisk as the night sea breeze, damp as it is with salty sea spray, and all around the warm late summer ocean air rushes past you. Grassy violet leaves and transparent synthetic musk create almost gossamer aquatic harmonies dissipating and recurring softly throughout its development.

As this settles and calms upon the skin, it continues to radiate a relaxing calming woody musky that is strange and striking, yet familiar and slightly salty. The usually wet leaves of the violet have been eased and somewhat, sharpened by the sweet tonka bean and the clean notes of moss.

After that, all is said and done, and this lingers on indefinitely as a clean, slightly green aura that has wisps of subtle sweetness with just the right amount of white musk seeping into warm cedarwood. Both sillage and longevity are above the average. L'Eau is the right cologne for workdays and weekends, mostly for daily wear. Both springtime and summertime are good seasons, and a target is a young man in his thirties.

Starts very green, with floral, citrus, and peppery notes. Then becomes greener with cedar. In the end, softly spicy. Unique!

After the pleasant citrus opening, the scent increasingly resembles a fir needle bath. You have to like it.

A solid yet strangely unknown cover, coming across quite summery, blending violets with tart fruit and a hint of saltwater.
