Unique and luxurious

A lot of things habe been said about this perfume and I do not want to repeat them all over again.

This perfume has a ton of notes and you can tell the complexity it has after all the changes happening from dry-down to the later stages.

The sillage is absolutely great, it is noticeable for many hours and as a skin scent will stay up to 24 hours on my skin. The comparison with TdH is a bit forced, they share a blast of citruses in top notes and then few minutes later, they become different scents :

- TdH is woody earthy with a bubbly type of notes, a bit loud and stays with an earthy character, classy for the rest of the longevity.
- Oligarch is subtle, starts with lots of citruses and then stays subtle, but very easy to smell and will become a classy perfume bubble around you.

It is considered a chypre but I see it more as a fougere, very similar to Fougere Royale from Houbigant and the 2010 version was also co-created by ROJA Dove, that is why (in my opinion) they have similarities and both smell very classy and luxurious.

Oligarch is hyped for a good reason and it is one of ROJAs best releases.

To be an Oligarch...

Many a reviews (video and written) rave about the depth and scent character of Oligarch. Rich, opulent, luxurious, multi-faceted, alpha. I would agree with all these adjectives except for perhaps the alpha one.

Here is my rather simple take on Oligarch.

Top: Our billionaire wakes, as they do, in the early afternoon on vacation on a tropical island surrounded by fruits a plenty. Lounging in a private villa, he indulges in an invigorating citrusy drink enriched with the lingering smell of tropical fruits and flowers that is carried by the non-salty breeze. He observes his surroundings and thanks his good fortunes. What a great way to start the day.

Mid: Mid-afternoon, his palate tingling with citruses, our protagonist leaves the villa to wander along the boundaries of this island. Venturing away with his significant other towards the beach surrounded by broad leaf trees. An air of sweet coconut mixed with champaca greet his nostril and as he turns to his significant other, he is greeted further more by the delicate scent of the white florals she has tucked around her ear. Ahh this is bliss. It wouldn't smell this good if it was any other time but summer, thats for sure.

Base: Early evening, the sun is due to set soon. Perhaps tired of terra firma and in need of a little relief from the sun, our Oligarch and the significant other plunge into the water for a short swim towards their exuberant yacht, decked out with the finest of cedar and juniper floors. Once there, the lingering heat gently evaporates their watery footsteps and along with it, the soft woody aroma of the mixed woods pervades the air. Gone is the citrus cocktail of the morning, the breeze still carries the tropical air from the afternoon but with a faint coolness to it. Day will be ending soon. A cool matè drink awaits on the top floor. The sun is setting, the silent waves ripple against the hull. Cedar, juniper and matè mingle in the cooling air. If only these moments lasted longer. Who needs a fragrance when life smells this good?

Signature fragrance

For me this is easily a signature scent that can be worn anywhere. The mixture between the citruses and smokiness reminds of the same feel I had when I smelled the "real" Aventus back in the day - which was that this is how a man should smell.

Needless to say this can't be compared to Aventus smell wise. This is classy as it can be. I do not understand why this version has been discontinued because I've had both this and the new Parfum, and this is superior in every category, especially smell profile and performance. Do not buy Parfum version. If you can get it, EdP is the king.

Aventus lost. Oligarch is the new king of male parfumery

Oligarch reminds me Terre Hermès, but much more better, richer, deeper, more projection and longevity.
If you chose between Terre Hermès and Oligarch, then only Oligarch. Really, this is best version of Terre.
This parfum created for successful Russian billionaires, kinda Abramovich

To be an oligarch

One things we gotta give Mr. Roja credit for is his masterful blending and re-interpretations of mainstream classics. This is supposed to be a sublimation of TDH, and I'd say "I see what you mean, but nope". Don't get me wrong, TDH is a fantastic perfume, but this one is a whole new level: layer after layer of polished complexity.

Another thing Roja does, and does very well, is to "hide" notes. His blending of too many notes prevent you from isolating them, and evokes sensations. The more easily detectable are the citruses, a very high quality trio of lemon, bergamot and lime.

The drydown is a soft amalgamation, sweetness from anise and apple, creaminess from coconut, and then all the rest of diverse notes that, on paper, wouldn't work, but here they do, creating a masterful and inspiring result.

No one's gonna be blown away by how different or unique this scent is, but it's an absolute delight. What a Russian oligarch would wear during his Summer in Nice, linen beige suit and all.
