Chypre at its best? Fast.
Yes, "Classico" has nothing to be ashamed of and almost plays in the same league as far more well-known Chypre references. Rarely has my battered nose perceived a more natural lemon in the opening. Only "Capucci pour Homme" can really keep up. Truly juicy and fully ripe.

Care for comparisons with other citrus powerhouses? Sure. "Morris for Men" is more reserved, "Eau pour Homme" (1984) by Armani has this wonderful basil note that "Classico" lacks, and the Chypre super classic, "Pour Monsieur," is spicier and has a stronger oak base.

All in all, "Classico" represents the intersection, the greatest common denominator of the aforementioned references. Carefully composed. Classic and yet (or precisely because of that) absolutely timeless. Also with truly remarkable longevity. It is almost predestined for early summer, which unfortunately is now already late summer/early autumn. But that’s okay, after an expected dreary autumn and wet-cold winter, at least I now know which fragrance I will use to greet the first warmer spring days of 2016. "Classic" in the best sense...

Do you know the land where the lemons bloom?
This motto seems to be followed by some Italian perfume houses. With Acqua di Genova's Colonia and especially Acqua di Parma's Colonia, the Italians possess some of the best citrus fragrances available.

Stylish, sporty cars and bold, lemony perfumes - that fits perfectly with the Dolce Vita! Acqua di Genova's Colonia would surely make an excellent scent for a Ferrari, while Acqua di Parma's Colonia, with its noble, almost modern powderiness, suits a black Maserati Quattroporte well. But for Battistoni's Classico, a modern classic is needed, perhaps a Fiat Spyder from the 70s or an Alfa Giulietta.

Battistoni's Classico is already summed up in its name. Essentially, everything has been said. This is achieved through a strong lemon, which takes on a slightly green, herbal, yet ethereal character thanks to lavender. There are few flowers for beauty, and later a still subtle, light base of soft musk and tonka - basta!

This recipe is as simple as a pasta dish, and just as good. Such a Classico belongs to the simple things in life, which can still bring great pleasure.

Battistoni does not take the dusty-powdery direction of Acqua di Parma's Colonia, but it is also not really juicy-fruity - it maintains a classic middle ground. I think it might be a bit closer to Acqua di Genova's Colonia.

In this case, it is a shame that Battistoni perfumes are so rarely available. Currently, Classico, as well as other Battistoni perfumes, can only be found sporadically through well-known Italian sales portals like ebay.it or twenga.it. The prices are rock bottom and do not reflect the quality. Classico is almost a steal: 50 ml for €15! What is going on with this brand? Are they going bankrupt? Are they just clearing out the leftovers?

If I knew whether shipping from any unknown Italian vendors works well even with a lack of language skills, I would probably jump on it now. Here you can snag a bargain if you hurry.

The very citrusy top note lasts throughout the entire wear.
Luckily, I don't notice the rose at all.
